Bus Travel in Leicester

From Roman history to space exploration, discover some of England’s most unique and unusual stories with Arriva

One of the oldest established cities in Britain with a history stretching back over 2000 years, today Leicester is a vibrant multi-cultural metropolis as well as being a world-renowned centre for learning with its two Universities.

Leicester and Leicestershire are famous for their connection with one of the bloodiest battles in English history, and the discovery over 500 years later of King Richard III’s remains buried beneath a city car park. Thomas Cook, the pioneer of modern tourism, ran his first railway excursion here in 1841 and visitors can follow in his footsteps today, catching a steam train on the Great Central Railway.

Love the arts? Check out De Montfort Hall and the Curve Theatre.  The annual Riverside Festival is great for live music fans, and if you fancy a laugh the Comedy Festival is the biggest and longest running in Europe with 560 shows across 64 venues. Also check out family-friendly destinations like the Twinlakes park, shopping centres, indoor trampolines and more
Make sure to check out the Golden Mile; a vibrant marketplace for Indian food, spices, fashion and jewellery, the area is a shining example of Leicester’s cultural diversity and its world-famous Diwali celebrations are the largest outside India.
