New bus routes and times in Luton

We're upgrading the network from 1 June 2025

From 1 June 2025, we’re making exciting changes to our bus network in Luton.

There’ll be more buses and more routes so you can connect more with the people you love and the places you need to reach.
After carefully reviewing passenger numbers, travel patterns and taking into consideration the changes many of you have been asking for we’ve invested over £9 million in new buses to help shape Luton’s bus network in a way that works more effectively.

The changes include:
-    Increasing the frequency of services along the busway to every 7–8 minutes
-    Providing better links between Luton and Lewsey Farm
-    Delivering a 24/7 service to London Luton Airport
-    Extending services to new communities and developments in the area including Linmere, Houghton Regis and Thorn.

Here’s a summary of the upcoming changes:

Route A - London Luton Airport to Houghton Regis
Route Z - London Luton Airport to Tithe Farm
We’re making getting around Dunstable even easier by combining routes A and Z into a convenient loop.

Route A will now run in a clockwise loop, starting at London Luton Airport, then traveling through Luton, Dunstable, Houghton Regis, Tithe Farm, Lewsey Farm and Luton and Dunstable Hospital, before heading back to Luton and the airport.

Route Z will run in the opposite direction, following an anticlockwise loop from London Luton Airport, through Luton, Luton and Dunstable Hospital, Lewsey Farm, Parkside, Tithe Farm, Houghton Regis and Dunstable, before returning to Luton and the airport.

From London Luton Airport and Luton, the fastest bus to Dunstable and Houghton Regis is route A. For customers travelling to Lewsey Farm, Parkside and Tithe Farm, the fastest bus is route Z.

Buses will use Windsor Drive in Parkside in both directions, meaning that the area will now have a bus service on Sundays which runs up to every 30 minutes. Parkside Drive will be served by new route L.

Both routes will run 24/7, with buses arriving up to every 15 minutes - great for getting to work or heading away on a much-needed holiday. Plus, Route A will now coordinate with new Route L, offering a bus every 7 minutes between Lewsey Farm and Luton.

Route Z will coordinate with Routes H, X2, and X3 making the journey between Dunstable, Luton, and London Luton Airport even quicker and more direct, with buses every 7 minutes along the busway.

Route A and H will stop at White Lion Retail Park, Central Bedfordshire College, Asda, Quadrant, Church Street (P1) and Priory View, before returning to White Lion Retail Park to head towards Houghton Regis, Tithe Farm and Lewsey Farm. Buses towards Luton do not change.

H – London Luton Airport to Thorn
Say hello to our new route - the H! Buses will run between London Luton Airport, Luton town centre, Dunstable, Houghton Regis and Thorn, giving you even more choice for getting around. Buses will run up to every 30 minutes from Monday to Saturday, and every hour on Sundays.

Even better, when combined with routes X2, X3 and Z, you’ll now have a bus up to every 7 minutes between Dunstable and London Luton Airport—fast along the busway, frequent and convenient.

L – Luton to Linmere
We’re excited to launch our new route L, your brand new service running up to every 15 minutes, Monday to Saturday, connecting Luton town centre with Luton and Dunstable Hospital, Lewsey Farm and Linmere.

Buses will complete a small circuit of Linmere, stopping at The Farmstead, Waterslade Way, Box Crescent and Silver Birch Avenue, offering great links to the development as it grows.
Route L will also serve Parkside Drive in both directions - bringing more frequent buses to the area.

And with routes A and Z working alongside it, you’ll have a bus up to every 7 minutes between Lewsey Farm and Luton on weekdays and Saturdays, and up to every 15 minutes on Sundays—plenty of options, whenever you travel.

X2/X3 – London Luton Airport to Milton Keynes
Our F70/F77 buses between London Luton Airport, Luton, Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard and Milton Keynes will now be called X2 and X3.

Our new route X2 will now serve Apex Park, Clipstone Park, heading into Leighton Buzzard town centre along Hockliffe Road up to every hour, including in the evenings and on Sundays. Route X3 will serve Stanbridge and Tilsworth, continuing into Leighton Buzzard past Roundel Drive.

We’ll still serve Leighton Buzzard town centre, but to avoid disruptions from High Street closures buses will call at West Street every day of the week, making things simpler and more consistent.

Route X2 heads fast from Leighton Buzzard rail station to Newton Leys serving the entirety of the development (replacing route 5). Route X3 will continue to Stoke Hammond, calling at St Helena Avenue in Newton Leys, before both routes head to Bletchley, Stadium MK, Winterhill and Milton Keynes city centre. Buses continue to operate a one-way loop of Milton Keynes, calling at Milton Keynes Central rail station before heading to The Point and returning to Milton Keynes Hospital.

1 – Luton to Dunstable
As part of our exciting new bus network around Dunstable, route 31 will be renumbered as route 1. There are no changes to the timetable—buses will continue to run as usual offering frequent connections between Dunstable, Luton, and Farley Hill up to every 15 minutes. This is a simple change to make it even easier to find and remember your service.

4/4A – Luton to Dunstable or Luton & Dunstable Hospital
We’re replacing routes 24, 25, and 26 with new routes 4 and 4A, making it even easier to get around.

We're excited to deliver new route 4 which will extend to Dunstable, running through Lewsey Farm, Woodside Industrial Estate, past White Lion Retail Park and Central Bedfordshire College directly into the town centre, up to every hour Monday to Saturday daytimes. This means that there's now a direct connection from Dunstable to Marsh Farm, Bramingham and Bushmead without changing buses, which many of our customers have been asking for.

Route 4 will serve Cromer Way (replacing existing route 26) and route 4A will serve Barnfield (replacing existing routes 24 and 25). Both routes then continue to Bramingham, Marsh Farm up to every 20 minutes combined.

Route 4A will continue hourly to Hockwell Ring and Luton & Dunstable Hospital, Monday to Sunday.

Additional journeys on route 4A will run during school days only, directly linking Luton, the Sixth Form and Barnfield Colleges. We'll continue to offer buses up to every ten minutes in the morning peak to offer plenty of capacity for students. Buses will no longer start at Sundon Park on schooldays due to change in customer demand - the nearest bus stops are on Hill Rise for routes 4/4A. Equally, due to a reduction in demand over time, buses will no longer serve Kestrel Way or Ravenhill Way on schooldays only - customers should catch route 4 at St Dominics Square or Leagrave High Street

Together, routes 4 and 4A will run up to every 20 minutes between Luton, Bushmead, Warden Hill, Bramingham and Marsh Farm.

23/23A Luton to Linmere or Upper Sundon

We’re making changes to route 23 to better serve local travel needs – especially for employees at Panattoni, Ocado and Lidl distribution centres.

We’ve worked closely with employment sites to align bus departures with updated shift patterns. We've added new journeys  to cover all key shift start and finish times at Lidl distribution centre, where our buses stop right outside the colleague's entrance.

We're also making some minor timetable changes to help keep buses running smoothly.

27 Luton to Marsh Farm

321 Luton to Watford
721 Luton to Hemel Hempstead
We're making some minor timetable changes, with some low-used journeys on route 721 no longer running. We've optimised the timetable once again to keep buses moving smoothly, in response to customer feedback. Buses continue to run up to every 15 minutes, Monday to Saturday daytimes - and hourly on Sundays on route 321.
