Travelling to and from Pinderfields Hospital
Pinderfields Hospital is located just a mile from the centre of Wakefield, a city on the banks of the River Calder, in West Yorkshire, England. Access to the hospital by road is relatively straightforward as it sits close to the A642 and is served by Arriva bus services, which cover an area that includes Wakefield, Castleford, Leeds and Pontefract.
Although there has been a hospital on the site since 1900, Pinderfields Hospital, as it is today, was officially opened in September 2011. As well as being a general hospital with 639 beds, it is home to a regional burns unit, a specialist neonatal unit and the Yorkshire Regional Spinal Injuries Centre (YRSIC).
The hospital is also a designated Major Trauma Unit, which is reflected in the presence of a helicopter landing site nearby. This helps it to deal with the more serious emergency cases from a much wider radius.
