New buses bring a sparkle to the ‘Eye of York’
The buses were unveiled at the Eye of York by Cllr Dave Merrett, supported by representatives from City of York Council and Arriva. Cllr Merrett undertook the honours and cut the ribbon, and once launched the buses headed straight out to start serving passengers.
The new buses will operate exclusively on services 24, 26 and 27 which are routes funded by the City of York Council. Service 24 operates the York – Holgate – Acomb route. Service 26 operates the Fulford – York – South Bank,The Knavesmire route, with service 27 operating in York – Fulford and to York University.
Cllr Dave Merrett, Cabinet Member for Transport, Planning and Sustainability, said: “This is fantastic news and we’re delighted to share this announcement with Arriva. The launch of the new buses in York will provide an even better service to bus users on these busy routes. This also supports our York by Bus campaign which aims to encourage even more people to travel by bus and increase passenger numbers by 18 per cent by 2015.”
