York plays host to world famous robot - Titan
TITAN the robot took travel to the MAX when he launched the 415 buses on Tuesday which serve, Selby, Fulford and York. These state of the art buses feature a fresh new exterior, ambient interiors, luxury high backed leather style seating, free WIFI and the very latest in journey planning technology for customers.
The Wi-Fi service was added to the MAX buses following an award of £320k of government funding to City of York Council. The scheme is funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), as part of York's status as one of 22 SuperConnected Cities.
Nigel Featham, regional managing director for Arriva Yorkshire said: “The new MAX buses offer a great package of benefits for passengers. We believe it will be a huge hit with customers and are looking forward to the buses hitting the road in Yorkshire. The launch was marked with an event at York Designer Outlet, which showcased the buses and for a little added pizazz, the well-known Titan the robot performed. Our Arriva angels were also on hand giving out free day tickets to customers, encouraging more people to jump on board!”
Cllr David Levene, Cabinet Member for Transport, Planning and Economic Development at City of York Council, said: “Through this government grant we’re working with all York bus operators to aspire to help fund free Wi-Fi on all York’s services. Our aim is to encourage even more people to travel by bus and increase passenger numbers by 18 per cent by 2015. This is just another way in which we’re helping to make bus travel more attractive for new and existing commuters.”
Titan the Robot added “It was great to meet the customers of the 415 route, we certainly took this Arriva bus launch to the MAX!”
The 415 route operates up to every 15 minutes Monday to Friday, connecting Selby, Fulford and York. A full timetable can be downloaded here.
