Arriva Make Major Merseyside Investment
MERSEYSIDE has received 37 brand new double-decker buses in a £7 million investment to provide a more comfortable journey for passengers, especially during peak times.
Routes 10 and 10A have 26 new buses between them, while the 10B running from Green Lane has 11.
All the new buses are fitted with WiFi and e leather seating and provide additional capacity for passengers.
Howard Farrall, area managing director for Arriva Merseyside said: “New buses not only make a huge difference to our passengers in terms of comfort and reliability, but also have an impressive environmental impact.”
“The 10s are an important group of services which link St Helens, Prescot, Page Moss, Huyton and Liverpool, and are part of the Quality Bus Network, so it’s great news that we are able to continue to invest.”
Green Lane was the first to see the benefits, following a roadshow held in Huyton in early January.
Santa turned up alongside Arriva’s own mascot Alfie to deliver a late Christmas gift – the 10 new buses for route 10B.
The role of Alfie was played by driving instructor Ian Cummins while driver Michael Murphy was chosen as Santa due to his past experience.
Driver Steve Parry said: “All the passengers are excited about the new buses and everybody who attended the roadshow had a lovely day. It was so popular it went on for much longer than was originally planned.”
Both St Helens and Green Lane’s new vehicles for the 10s offer a twist on the standard advertising panels, with arty and humorous quotes across the T-section.
General manager Peter Sass said: “The quotes, such as ‘Posh and Double Decks’ and, ‘You wait for a bus and then 36 come along at once’, really add some fun to the new fleet. Along with the e leather and WiFi they are a great addition to the fleet that will last a long while and are an excellent investment for the company.”
Howard Farrall, area managing director for Arriva Merseyside, added: “Arriva is committed to providing the best possible service for our customers, and we continue to invest in our fleet. We are delighted to introduce double-deck buses to these really popular routes, we hope our customers enjoy the view from the top deck!”
