Royal pies mark new service launch
Local bus company Arriva North West is bringing a new concept in bus travel to the people of Wigan, Bolton and Chorley. The new ‘Sapphire’ brand brings buses that are fit for royalty, with great on board facilities including free Wi-fi, USB charging points, luxury leather type seating, extra leg room and audio/visual next stop announcements on board.
The 15 Sapphire buses are now out on the road operating exclusively on the 362 and 575 bus routes. To mark the occasion Arriva ran a competition to give residents the opportunity to win their own regal title. Winners Daniel Anderton and Frank Iddon were treated like royalty while a Queen lookalike officially presents them with their titles at the launch event on Standishgate in Wigan on Thursday. Passing shoppers were treated to some special royal pies to mark the occasion.
John Rimmer, area managing director, Arriva Manchester, said: “We’ve developed the Sapphire concept based on what our customers told us in extensive research including surveys, site visits and focus groups.
“Sapphire gives us the opportunity to improve perceptions of the bus, encourage non-users to give the bus a try and improve the journey for our existing customers.”
