Modern Transport Hub Opens Doors to the Public
Altrincham’s stylish new customer-friendly interchange opened this autumn.
The multi-million pound redevelopment has transformed the old facility into a fully accessible modern transport hub, providing improved links between bus, train and tram services and greater comfort for passengers.
The spacious glazed concourse offers better protection from bad weather with specially designed doors enabling passengers to step from the building straight onto their bus.
Other improvements include upgraded CCTV and passenger information systems and new integrated ticket office within the existing Victorian station building. Plus there is a dedicated cycle hub with secure, covered parking for more than 50 bicycles.
“This redevelopment has created a much-improved customer waiting environment with better restroom and café facilities,” said Ben Jarvis, general manager at Wythenshawe.
“Most of our services in south Manchester will operate into the new interchange. But due to space restrictions, the number of bus stands have had to be reduced from 10 to five, so it will require some careful managing. However, the opening in November will end 18 months when our customers and drivers have had to show great patience. And we thank them for that."
