The new Sapphire bus adds a touch of sparkle to Derby.

Arriva introduced their new ‘premium’ service – Sapphire in Derby’s Market Place, Monday 11th August.

Steve Mathieson, Arriva Midlands Area Director said: "We’re delighted to have introduced the Sapphire brand to Derby and were honoured to have had Councillor Ranjit Banwait in attendance to officially launch the service.

“The investment is significant at a time when there are plenty of economic challenges out there, although we firmly believe in continuing to try and improve our service offering whenever and wherever we can.

“We certainly hope the upgraded route will be a success and we’ll be working with our customers to gauge their feedback throughout the coming weeks and months.”

Councillor Ranjit Banwait, Leader of Derby City Council said: "Today is very special as it’s come to fruition the vision that we put together collectively all those years ago when we first launched the Strategic Bus Partnership of bringing in new high quality buses into the city, to encourage more people to use public transport and leave their cars at home.

“Getting 20 people on public transport is better than 20 people in 20 motor cars especially when the air quality in our city needs to be much better. Public transport and getting people on buses is a very good way of improving our environment and reducing our carbon emissions."

The Sapphire buses will be in service from 18th August operating on service 38 between Sinfin and Derby City Centre.
