Gas Buses

Gas bus in the North East

Arriva initially launched gas buses, powered by renewable gas, to routes in the North East during 2013. The buses run on mains gas from the National Grid, which is treated and compressed into tanks on the roof and provides enough energy to run 300 miles each day. To make the services more sustainable, Arriva returns biogas, produced from sewage and landfill, back into the grid.

Arriva currently runs gas buses on the busy local services 2, 11 and 12 in Darlington, plus X21 in Ashington in the North East, and on Runcorn local services 1, 2, and 3A/3C in the North West.
