Travelling around Ellesmere Port
Ellesmere Port is a town and port in Cheshire in North West England. Situated beside the River Mersey and within easy reach of Chester and Liverpool, this town has much more to offer nowadays than its industrial heritage.
Just a few miles from Liverpool, Ellesmere Port has excellent sea, road and rail links. Arriva buses operate in the area, providing services to and from Chester, as well as Cheshire Oaks, Broughton and Mold.
There have been settlements in the Ellesmere Port area since the 11th century, but the town itself wasn’t established until work began on the never-completed Ellesmere Canal in the 18th century. The town’s industrial expansion – particularly the opening of the Stanlow Oil Refinery in the 1920s and Vauxhall Motors in the 1960s – has contributed to the development of the thriving community that we know today.
