Earlestown is named after Hardman Earle, who was Chairman of the London and North Western Railway and forms the western part of Newton-le-Willows. An important part of the railway age, by 1900 Ealestown was producing 4,000 new wagons, with 13,000 major repairs and 200 new horse drawn vehicles. In more recent times, Earlestown has a small but busy town centre with many independent and major retailers and good transport links to Manchester, Liverpool Warrington and Chester amongst others.
