Travelling around Altrincham
Situated in Greater Manchester – right next to the Cheshire border – Altrincham is an affluent commuter town in the North West of England, not far from Sale, Warrington and Manchester city centre.
With the bright lights of Manchester just a stone’s throw away, as well as a thriving shopping district and recently renovated market, there’s plenty to keep you entertained in this bustling town.
Altrincham has excellent air, road and rail links. Arriva buses run services in the area, with routes to and from Stretford, Sale, Manchester and the Trafford Centre, as well as Manchester Airport.
If you’re looking for some retail therapy, Altrincham is an excellent choice. Head to pedestrianised George Street for top high street brands, such as House of Fraser, Marks & Spencer and Next. Or try Greenwood Street, Moss Lane or Stamford New Road for specialist independent stores. In the award-winning Altrincham Market, you’ll find regional food producers, as well as vintage fashion and furniture, and contemporary craft.
Filled to the brim with treasures and stories, Dunham Massey is an absolute must-see if you’re seeking either a bit of culture or some good old-fashioned fresh air. Promising fun for all the family – with many child-centred events taking place throughout the year – the National Trust site boasts an impressive Grade I listed Georgian house, a deer park and a seven-acre winter garden, as well as a restaurant and gift shop.
When it’s time to eat, you’ll find a selection of restaurants, bars and cafés that offer a range of dishes to tantalise your taste buds. Altrincham’s Grade II listed market house is home to ten independent quality food operators too. As the sun goes down, there are pubs and bars and aplenty, so take your pick!
