Contactless payment is coming to the North West
No change? No problem. Bus travel just got easier and more awesome with contactless technology letting you pay by debit or credit card, or your smartphone
We want travelling on our buses to be as easy and convenient as possible, which is why we’re rolling out contactless card payments across all our services in the North West in 2019. No more scrambling for change at the bottom of your bag – just simple travel whenever and wherever you need it.
Paying for bus travel by contactless is easy. Just hop on, tell the driver where you’d like to go, and tap your card or device to make an instant payment. Getting from A to B on our buses couldn’t be simpler, and this technology is coming to all our routes in the North West on selected dates in 2019.
When will it be available in my area?
We’re rolling out contactless ticketing an area at a time so check the table below to find out when you can expect contactless on your local routes:
|Introduction date||Area covered|
|19th May 2019||Bolton and west Manchester
|2nd June 2019||Right across Merseyside|
|9th June 2019||Cheshire and right across the rest of Manchester|
What is contactless payment?
Not everyone who boards our buses will use contactless, but it’s good to know it’s there and how to use it should you ever be stuck without any change. Contactless allows you to pay for bus travel quickly using a debit or credit card, and you’ll be able to pay for travel in a single tap provided it’s under £30.
There are other ways to take advantage of contactless, too, with loads of devices offering instant payments by card, including:
- Key fobs
- Wearable devices, such as watches and wristbands
- Mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets
Most new Apple and Android devices offer contactless payments, so you won’t need to worry about boarding the bus if you’ve forgotten your wallet. Check with your network provider to find out if contactless is available on your device.
