Service changes in Northumberland and Tyne & Wear

Start Date: 06/01/2019

Location: Northumberland and Tyne & Wear

There will be changes to services 43, 51/51A and 53 in Northumberland and Tyne & Wear from Sunday 6th January 2019.

The 43 is being revised to serve a new housing development in Cramlington, while the alterations to the 51/51A and 53 will ensure that buses run as punctually as possible during roadworks at Benton Asda.

All of the changes are described in detail below. Simply click on the links to download the new timetables for each service. Printed leaflets are available on buses and from our travel shop in the Newcastle Haymarket bus station.

Service 43: Newcastle – Regent Centre – Wideopen – Dudley – Cramlington – Bedlington – Morpeth

This service will have a revised route in Cramlington to serve the new housing development at St Nicholas Manor. Buses will run via Station Road, the A1171 and A192 instead of Northumbrian Road, Durham Road and the B1505 between Cramlington town centre and Boghouses. There will be no changes to any other parts of the route. Click here to download the new timetable.

Service 51/51A: Newcastle – Benton Asda – Holystone – Shiremoor – Whitley Bay
Service 53: Cramlington – Dudley – Killingworth – Forest Hall – Benton Asda – Holystone – Shiremoor – North Shields

North Tyneside Council is replacing the roundabout outside of Benton Asda with traffic lights to ease congestion in this area. There is likely to be significant disruption during the work, which we expect to take up to five months.

To reduce the impact of the roadworks, Monday to Saturday daytime journeys on service 51/51A will run to a revised schedule. This will allow buses more time to travel between Hadrian Lodge, Benton Asda and Holystone, changing the times at most stops along the route and extending journeys by up to ten minutes. Click here to download the new timetable.

Service 53 will omit Benton Asda and run directly between Palmersville and Holystone Village. Customers travelling to/from Benton Asda should use the stops on Great Lime Road near the roundabout at the junction of Whitley Road. Click here to download the new timetable.

We apologise for any delays and inconvenience caused by these roadworks. We are working with Nexus and North Tyneside Council on alternative turning arrangements for service 53 so that buses can return to Benton Asda when the new traffic lights are in place.
