Service changes in Darlington and County Durham
Start Date: 17/02/2019
Location: Darlington and County Durham
Passengers are advised that there will be some changes to a number of services from Sunday 17th February.
These revisions are designed to meet the demand and travel patterns of our regular passengers, whilst continuing to develop timetables that are reliable and punctual.
In addition, some changes have been undertaken following a consultation exercise that took place in November 2018 and we thank all respondents for their time completing these surveys. Whilst we are unable to provide an individual reply to everyone, some feedback that was received has been retained to allow us to investigate further improvements at a later date.
Service 1/X1 : Darlington – Bishop Auckland – Crook – Tow Law
There will be a significant revision to the timetable on this service, following a review of service punctuality data.
Whilst there are no planned changes to the Monday to Saturday daytime routes of Service 1 and X1, evening and Sunday Service 1B will be revised to operate as Service 1, observing the normal route around Shildon, between Darlington and Bishop Auckland.
Service 2 : Red Hall – Darlington – Branksome
A revised timetable will be in operation, with specific journeys diverted via Yarm Road Industrial Estate on an evening and weekend morning, to meet shift start and end times for employees located on the business park.
Service 3/3A : Skerne Park – Darlington – Mowden/Harrowgate Farm
A revised route and timetable will be in place from the above date, which will see Service 3B withdrawn and replaced by a revised 3A for a majority of the route. There will be no service to Fitzwilliam Drive from this date.
All Service 3A journeys will instead operate from Darlington, via Hundens Lane and Albert Hill, before re-joining existing Service 3A route at North Road Morrisons to/from Harrowgate Farm.
Service 3 will continue to an unchanged route, however there will be some revisions to the timetable.
Service 4 : Darlington – Minors Crescent
A revised timetable will be in operation, which will see evening journeys after 7pm operating to an hourly frequency.
Service 5/5A : Darlington – Newton Aycliffe – Shildon – Bishop Auckland
A revised timetable will be in effect, mainly around evenings when current Service 5A journeys after 1800 will be revised to operate as Service 5 instead.
Service 6 : Durham – Spennymoor – Bishop Auckland – West Auckland – Cockfield – Barnard Castle
This service will have a revised timetable to improve punctuality and better match capacity with demand. The Monday to Friday journey at 0748 from Barnard Castle to Durham will start from West Auckland at 0819, which means it will not serve Barnard Castle, Staindrop, Cockfield or Evenwood. As a result, the bus at 0753 from Cockfield to Durham will extend to Barnard Castle, leaving there at 0732 and Staindrop at 0745.
Service 7 : Darlington – Newton Aycliffe – Ferryhill – Durham
A revised route and timetable will be in operation following analysis of real-time punctuality data.
Most journeys will be retimed, especially at peak times and evenings where the majority of existing delays occur.
Weekday morning journeys that extend to Framwellgate Moor will be reduced from three to two, plus all weekday afternoon journeys will start from Durham Bus Station and will no longer commence from Framwellgate Moor, owing to congestion problems.
Service 8/8A : Darlington – Newton Aycliffe – Ferryhill – Spennymoor
There will be a revised timetable in operation, following a review of service punctuality performance.
Service 12 : Hurworth – Darlington – Middleton St George – Trees Park Village
A revised route and timetable will be in operation following a review of passenger usage and service punctuality, along with utilisation of the results of a passenger survey undertaken in November 2018.
In Hurworth, all Service 12 journeys are revised to operate to a one-way loop, with buses omitting Emerson Avenue and operating Neasham Road, The Green and Croft Road in a westbound direction (all journeys will operate in the direction towards Croft).
In Middleton St George, all journeys will operate via Virginia Estate, following requests from residents for a more regular service for the area and the medical centre.
There will be a revised timetable throughout.
Service 13A/13B : Darlington – Firth Moor
A revised Saturday timetable will be in effect, with buses running up to every 6 minutes.
Service 19 : Darlington – West Park
A revised timetable will be in operation, but there will be no change to route.
Service X21 : Darlington – Sedgefield – Peterlee – Sunderland
A revised timetable will be in operation, following analysis of service punctuality.
In addition, the following weekday journeys will be withdrawn:
- 0734 Peterlee to Sunderland
- 1659 Peterlee to Sunderland
- 0810 Sunderland to Peterlee
- 1735 Sunderland to Peterlee
Service 56 : Durham – Coxhoe – Ferryhill – Coundon – Bishop Auckland
This service will run to a slightly revised timetable to improve punctuality during Monday to Friday commuter periods.
Service 57/57A : Durham – Coxhoe – Kelloe or Hartlepool
This service will run to a slightly revised timetable to improve punctuality, especially during Monday to Friday commuter periods.
Service X66/X67 : Middlesbrough – Stockton – Darlington
A revised timetable will be in operation following a review of service punctuality.
There will be amendments to peak time journeys, both into and out of Darlington and Middlesbrough.
In addition, due to low passenger usage, the 2125 Service X66 from Darlington to Stockton on a Monday to Saturday evening and the 0824 Service X67 from Stockton to Darlington on a Saturday morning are withdrawn.
Service 86 : Bishop Auckland – Witton Park – Toft Hill
The Monday to Friday journeys at 0640 from Toft Hill to Bishop Auckland, 0710 from Bishop Auckland to Toft Hill and 0740 from Toft Hill to Bishop Auckland will run up to ten minutes earlier throughout. This is to improve punctuality and fit with alterations to other services. There will be no other changes to the timetable.
Services ED1, ED2, ED3 and ED4 : East Durham College
All Monday to Friday afternoon journeys will run up to five minutes later to improve punctuality and give students more time after the end of lectures to catch the buses.
Revised printed timetables will be available very soon from all local Arriva travel shops and usual stockists in the area. Updated website timetables are available now.
