Information regarding revisions to Service 5, 5A & X5 from Sunday 21 February 2016.

 

From Sunday 21 February, we're making some changes to Services 5, 5A and X5, following on from feedback we have received from passengers and a review of usage on the service overall.

Regrettably, the most significant revision is that following analysis of existing passenger usage, Service X5 will be withdrawn.

Whilst we have seen that some passengers certainly did prefer the speed and directness that Service X5 provided, there was simply not enough regular passengers to maintain the service level and as a result, regrettably, the service will be withdrawn. Service X4 and 5 will continue to provide journeys between East Cleveland & Middlesbrough.

At the same time, we are responding to the growing numbers of passengers who are using Service 5/5A into and out of Middlesbrough at peak times by improving the morning and afternoon peak frequency to a bus up to every 10 minutes! At these times Service 5/5A will combine between Skelton, Guisborough, Ormesby & Middlesbrough to run more frequently, giving more options for passengers in these areas. Also, Service 5 will extend beyond Skelton to Easington up to every 20 minutes at these times, again, providing more frequent options for passengers in East Cleveland in lieu of Service X5.

 

Also, locally within the Lofus area, we're revising the times at which Service 5 operates into the villages of Skinningrove and Liverton Mines, at the request of local residents and councillors who suggested the current timetable was not as convenient as it could be.

 

Furthermore, on Sundays and Bank Holidays, we're trialing a revised timetable in East Cleveland that will provide a 2-hourly service for Liverton Mines and Skinningrove, again at the request of local passengers.

 

For users of the service between Brotton & Middlesbrough, most journeys will remain unchanged and will run to existing times.

Service 5 will also continue to connect with Service X4 at Loftus Market Place, allowing for connections to/from Redcar Centre or Whitby.

 

Revised timetables will be available on our website very soon, with printed leaflets following shortly after, available on bus, in local travel shops or usual stockists.
