Start Date: 04/11/2018

Location: Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland

There will be changes to some services in Northumberland and Tyne & Wear from Sunday 4th November 2018 to improve punctuality, speed up journeys, better match capacity with demand and respond to customers' requests.

All of the changes are described in detail below. Simply click on the links to download the new timetables for each service. Printed leaflets are available on buses and from the Alnwick, Ashington, Blyth, Morpeth and Newcastle Haymarket bus stations.

Service 1: Blyth – Bedlington Station – Stakeford – Ashington – Lynemouth – Ellington – Widdrington Station

This service will run to a slightly revised timetable between North Seaton, Ashington and Wansbeck Hospital to improve punctuality. The Monday to Saturday journey at 2318 from Blyth to Bedlington Station will extend to Ashington, providing a later last bus from Blyth to Stakeford, North Seaton and Ashington.

Service 35: Morpeth – Pegswood – Ashington – North Seaton – Newbiggin

This service will run to a slightly revised schedule between North Seaton and Ashington town centre to improve punctuality. There are no other changes to the timetable. Click here to download a copy.

Service 552: Brunswick – Hazlerigg – Kingston Park – Regent Centre – Four Lane Ends – Tyneview Park

The Monday to Friday morning journeys will run five minutes later to maintain connections with the X15 and X20 at the Regent Centre. There are no other changes to the timetable. Click here to download a copy.

MAX X14: Newcastle – Regent Centre – Morpeth – Longhorsley – Longframlington – Rothbury – Thropton

Most buses will run up to five minutes later to improve punctuality and fit with alterations to services X15, X16 and X18 between Morpeth and Newcastle.

Following customers’ requests, there will be one additional Monday to Saturday daytime journey in each direction between Morpeth and Thropton. This will fill some two-hour gaps in the current schedule and make our Monday to Friday and Saturday times more consistent.

MAX X15: Newcastle – Regent Centre – Morpeth – A1 – Alnwick – Belford – Berwick-upon-Tweed

MAX X18: Newcastle – Regent Centre – Morpeth – Amble – Alnwick – Seahouses – Belford – Berwick-upon-Tweed

This service will run to its winter timetable between Alnwick, Seahouses, Belford and Berwick-upon-Tweed, comprising 3-4 journeys per day each way. However, the X18 will work alongside the Travelsure 418 to provide a two-hourly service in each direction between Alnwick, Seahouses and Belford.

In May, we reduced the number of buses that serve the centre of Alnmouth village to cut delays caused by traffic congestion and vehicles parked on the narrow roads. Our GPS data show that the remaining buses still experience delays, which are extremely variable and can have a big impact on timekeeping elsewhere on the route.

To ensure that this service runs as punctually as possible for everyone, we are withdrawing all journeys from the centre of Alnmouth village. However, all buses (at all times of the day) will continue to serve the stops near Alnmouth Methodist Church.

Most buses will run up to five minutes later throughout the route to fit with alterations to the X14, X15 and X16 between Morpeth and Newcastle.

The Monday to Friday journey at 0708 from Belford to Alnwick will run via South Road, Willowburn Avenue and Wagonway Road in Alnwick, serving the Duchess High School before the Bus Station. As a result, this journey will not serve the usual stops at St Paul’s School and the Infirmary.

The Monday to Saturday journey at 2218 from Newcastle to Amble will extend to Alnwick, providing a later last bus from Newcastle to Warkworth, Alnmouth and Alnwick. However, the Sunday (and Public Holiday) journey at 2218 from Newcastle will continue to finish in Amble.

MAX X20: Newcastle – Regent Centre – North Seaton – Ashington – Widdrington Station – Amble – Alnwick

Most buses will run a few minutes later to improve punctuality, provide better connections with trains at Alnmouth station and fit with alterations to the X18 between Widdrington and Alnwick.

The Thursday, Friday and Saturday journey at 2100 from Ashington to Widdrington, which was introduced in May on a trial basis, will be withdrawn due to very low usage.

Sapphire X21/X22: Newcastle – Regent Centre – Bedlington – Stakeford – Ashington – Newbiggin

This service will have a revised timetable to improve punctuality, with some buses running up to five minutes earlier or later than now.

To minimise journey times, buses will not serve the stops at the end of Polwarth Drive on the Great North Road in Newcastle. Alternative journeys are available from Polwarth Drive to the Regent Centre and Newcastle on services 43, 44, 45, 46, X9, X10 and X11. Customers travelling from Polwarth Drive to Bedlington, Ashington or Newbiggin should change buses at the Regent Centre.
