Extra Buses for Durham Lumiere - Thursday 16th November to Sunday 19th November 2017

Lumiere returns to Durham from Thursday 16th November to Sunday 19th November with a spectacular raft of installations and projections to illuminate buildings, streets and public spaces. Local and international artists, lighting designers and community groups will breathe new light into the city with a breathtaking range of works.

This year's festival is going to be more popular than ever before, and Arriva has a range of services to get you there and home again. We will be running extra journeys and bigger buses on most of our routes in Durham, so there really is no better way to see Lumiere.

Service 6, from Spennymoor, Bishop Auckland, West Auckland and Cockfield. Normal timetables will apply during the daytime, with buses running up to every 12 minutes. Service 7, from Ferryhill, Newton Aycliffe and Darlington. Normal timetables will apply throughout the event, with buses running up to every 15 minutes. Click here for details.

Service 22, from Thornley, Wheatley Hill, Shotton, Peterlee and Sunderland. Normal timetables will apply throughout the event, with buses running up to every 30 minutes. Click here for details.

Service 24, from Sherburn Village, Haswell, Shotton, Peterlee and Hartlepool. Normal timetables will apply on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with buses running up to every 30 minutes. Service 43, from Broompark, Ushaw Moor and Esh Winning. Normal timetables will apply throughout the event, with buses running up to every 15 minutes. Click here for details.

Service 48, from Bearpark, Ushaw Moor and New Brancepeth. Normal timetables will apply on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with buses running up to every 20 minutes. Service 49/49A, from Langley Moor and Brandon. Normal timetables will apply on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with buses running up to every 10 minutes. Service 56/56A, from Coxhoe, Ferryhill Station, Ferryhill and Bishop Auckland. Normal timetables will apply during the daytime, with buses running up to every 30 minutes. Service 57/57A, from Coxhoe, Kelloe, the Trimdons and Hartlepool. Normal timetables will apply throughout the event, with buses running up to every 30 minutes. Click here for details.

Service 64, from Newton Hall, Arnison Centre, Gilesgate and Sherburn Village. Normal timetables will apply on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with buses running up to every 10 minutes. The normal timetable will also apply on Sunday daytime, but there will be extra buses between Durham, Newton Hall and the Arnison Centre on Sunday evening. Service X12, from Coxhoe, Sedgefield, Stockton, Middlesbrough, Chester-le-Street and Newcastle. Normal timetables will apply throughout the event, with buses running up to every 30 minutes. Click here for details.

Where to catch your Bus in Durham during Lumiere

Milburngate Bridge will be closed to eastbound traffic from 9pm on Wednesday 15th November. After this time:

  • Service 6 buses travelling from Durham to Cockfieldwill run via Margery Lane and Quarryheads Lane between Milburngate and the New Inn, omitting the stops on Milburngate Bridge, New Elvet and Church Street
  • Service 24 buses travelling from Durham to Peterlee, Blackhall and Hartlepoolwill run via Margery Lane, Quarryheads Lane, Church Street and New Elvet between Milburngate and Gilesgate, omitting the stops on Milburngate Bridge. However, they will stop additionally on the A690 at Hild-Bede College
  • Service 64 buses travelling from Durham to Sherburn Villagewill run via Margery Lane, Quarryheads Lane, Church Street and New Elvet between Milburngate and Claypath. However, they will stop additionally on the A690 at Hild-Bede College
  • Service X12 buses travelling from Durham to Middlesbrough will run via Margery Lane and Quarryheads Lane between Milburngate and the New Inn, omitting the stops on Milburngate Bridge, New Elvet and Church Street

 

Several roads in Durham City Centre will be restricted or completely closed during the event, which means that some services will have revised routes and stopping arrangements.

  • Claypath will be closed in both directions from 1.45pm on each day. From this time, service 64 will run via the A690 Leazes Road, omitting all of the stops on Claypath. However, buses will stop additionally on the A690 at Hild-Bede College
  • A barrier will be in place along the centre of North Road (outside of the bus station) to give pedestrians safe access into the City Centre. This means that, throughout the event, services 61, 62 and 64 will use temporary stops outside of the Bethel Chapel on North Road. Buses will also omit the stops on Milburngate.
  • The lower half of North Road and Milburngate will be completely closed from 2pm on each day. From this time, services 6, 22, 24, 56, 57, 57A, X12 and X24 will run via the A690, omitting the stops on Milburngate.

 

Normal routes and stopping arrangements will apply everywhere else. Buses that serve Durham Bus Station will continue to use their normal stands. We expect the Bus Station to be very busy, but staff will be on hand to help you plan your journey and find your bus.
