Travelling around Sunderland
Lying at the mouth of the River Wear in the North East of England, Sunderland is sandwiched between two great northern cities, Newcastle and Durham. A must-see destination in its own right, this vibrant city is brimming with culture, history and charm. Visit Hylton Castle – a magnificent medieval tower and gatehouse on the edge of the city – take a tour of the Roker Pier and Lighthouse or explore some of the city’s beautiful parks and gardens.
Sunderland has excellent road and rail links. Arriva buses operate in the area, providing routes to local towns and villages, such as Sedgefield and Wingate, as well as regular services to Hartlepool and Darlington.
