Travelling around Peterlee

Peterlee is a New Town located in County Durham in the north-east of England. It offers the ideal base from which to explore the local area, being close to the rolling countryside of the wider county and a major city like Sunderland.

Peterlee is one of the few towns in England to be named after a specific individual. In this case it is Peter Lee, the celebrated Durham miners’ leader. Perhaps the most striking feature of the town itself is the Apollo Pavilion, a bridge that links two parts of the town and was constructed in 1970 in a cubist, concrete style.

Peterlee has good road links to the wider community via the A19 and A1086, and Arriva buses can be taken to places, such as Durham, Sunderland, Hartlepool and Middlesbrough.
