We’re making bus travel even easier with awesome contactless technology in 2019!
Whether it’s a day out or your commute, there is great news for customers in the North East: we’re installing new contactless payment systems for all your bus travel!
If you’re not already familiar with contactless payment, it means no more last-minute fumbling around with your change or a hurried trip to the nearest cash point. Just hop on the bus, flash your method of payment on the scanner and you’re good to go. It couldn’t be simpler.
When will it be available in my area?
We’ll be replacing the ticket machines of the North East’s buses an area at a time. Check below to see when the expected changeover will be complete:

What is contactless payment?
Contactless allows people to pay quickly and securely using a credit or debit card without the need to enter your PIN. Quick and fuss-free, contactless payment is becoming more and more popular as a means of paying for purchases £30 and under.
Not just limited to credit and debit cards, you can pay by contactless through a range of devices, including:
- Key fobs
- Wearable devices, such as watches and wristbands
- Mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets
