Changes to services in Derby from 28 October
Start Date: 28/10/2018
Arriva Midlands will be implementing a number of changes to services in Derby from 28th October, following a recent review of passenger feedback and boarding numbers on bus routes throughout the City.
Simon Mathieson, Area Managing Director for Arriva Midlands (North), said: “We have a strong core network throughout Derby which we remain incredibly proud of, but we have noticed demand decline over recent months across many of our routes outside of peak periods.
“With only small numbers of people using some services at certain times of day, we have had to re-evaluate how we can best continue to serve these areas in order to ensure our passengers remain connected.
“What we have done is to look at areas where we can improve operationally and make the necessary alterations which will not only better match supply with demand, but also ensure our customers are able to benefit from more punctual, reliable services, linking the areas they most need to get to, at the times they need to travel. Following our careful assessment of the entire network, we will be implementing a few timetable and route amendments, most notably affecting evening and early morning journeys.
“Throughout planning we have remained mindful of the impact that this course of action will have on bus users locally, and as such have been careful to safeguard services used by more vulnerable users, including those we operate via schools and doctors surgeries, as well as maintaining links to large employment and leisure hubs, wherever strong passenger numbers dictate it.
“Our intentions are to develop a network which people can rely on and will want to use. We believe that with these changes, we will be able to better concentrate on those areas which rely most heavily on bus travel, and provide them with more efficient and reliable services that will better suit their needs. This remains our priority.”
1/1A/F1 Derby - Alvaston
There will be a new journey on service 1A from Blue Peter to the City Centre at 05.21am on weekdays, replacing the service 4 at a similar time. The 05.47am from London Road will in future start from the Bus Station at 05.36am.
Saturday morning and evening journeys on service F1 will be reduced, however there will be alternative travel options available on routes 1/1A.
2/2A/2B/2C Derby - Chellaston & Swadlincote
We will be revising the route and timetables on services 2/2A/2B/2C. This is to improve punctuality. However, we will be reducing the frequency on the 2B from half hourly to hourly to better match the lower level of demand we have in West Chellaston. Sinfin Avenue will in future be served by the 2A instead of the 2B, with a half hourly service linking it to central Derby. And the 2C will now operate every 30 minutes, compared to every 60 minutes.
4/4A Derby - Allenton & Alvaston
We will be withdrawing service 4 on parts of the route which it currently shares with the 1/1A. All areas served by these routes will maintain frequent links to both Alvaston and Derby via either the 1/1A or 4. However, early evening and Sunday frequency on service 4 will be reduced to hourly. A number of early morning, and later evening journeys will also be withdrawn. The 05.25am journey from Blue Peter to the City via the Railway Station will be replaced by a new journey on 1A.
5/5A Derby - Royal Derby Hospital
On service 5/5A, Monday to Saturday evening services will be withdrawn from around 8pm, and Sunday evening services will end from 7pm.
7 Derby - Sinfin
Service 7 will see a number of early morning and evening journeys withdrawn, however those in Sinfin will still be able to travel on Sapphire service 38, whilst Normanton will continue to be covered by service 4.
38 Derby - Sinfin & Stenson Fields
Sunday evening journeys on service 38 will have their frequency reduced from half hourly to hourly between 6.30pm and 11.30pm. Sunday services at all other times will continue to run every 30 minutes.
