Travelling around Tamworth
With great connections to nearby Birmingham, the historic market town of Tamworth is a fascinating West Midlands base. Scratch the surface and you’ll see there’s plenty here to see and do without travelling to the bright lights of the second city.
With world-famous theme parks, a whopping indoor snow dome and a not-to-be-missed steam railway, there’s plenty to do if you like a little action with your day out, but that’s not all. There are huge open green spaces, animal petting zoos and a glorious historic castle to see. Visitors and residents alike won’t be short of fun in Tamworth.
Arriva buses make getting around Tamworth and the surrounding Midlands a breeze. Board a bus and travel all the way to Brum for its excellent shopping facilities or go in the other direction and visit the historic town of Lichfield. Travel within Tamworth is excellent too, as there are regular services to Amington, Coton Green and Hockley.
If you’re visiting Tamworth, then the excellent Drayton Manor theme park is sure to feature high on your to-do list. Perfect for the whole family, there’s something for everyone, from Thomas Land with its selection of kiddie-friendly rides, right the way up to the legendary Accelerator rollercoaster with its terrifying loops and dips – backwards! There’s also a zoo, a soft play centre, crazy golf and much more.
If taking to the ice is more your thing, the Tamworth SnowDome will be very much worth your while. With real snow all year round, the main slope measures 170 metres, while the Snow Academy areas make it the perfect place for teaching little ones to ski. There’s also an ice-skating rink and a huge range of fun activities for all ages and abilities.
The historic Tamworth Castle dates back to Medieval times and offers the chance to explore the Tudor and Stuart chambers, grand Victorian reception rooms and much more besides, making it the perfect day trip for history lovers.
