Arriva marks Catch the Bus Week alongside local MPs
The MPs for South and NW Leicestershire joined the team from Arriva Midlands at events across the county to officially mark the seventh annual Catch the Bus Week.
Running from 1st to 7th July, Catch the Bus Week is an industry-wide initiative being supported by sustainable transport group Greener Journeys, which urges people to try using the bus instead of their car by challenging the preconceptions of bus travel.
Donning a giant green promotional foam hands, Conservative MPs Alberto Costa and Andrew Bridgen met with Arriva’s local management team on Friday 5th July to discuss the unique schemes currently underway in their specific constituencies to help promote the social, economic and environmental benefits of passenger transport.
Whilst Mr Bridgen hopped on local buses in Coalville to speak to passengers about their experiences of bus transport locally, Mr Costa was able to enjoy a more unique experience altogether, taking the opportunity to try out ArrivaClick, Leicester’s new on-demand, ridesharing minibuses which launched in the city in April this year.
With no fixed routes, and journeys determined by where and when customers want to travel, ArrivaClick puts the control back into the hands of the passenger, and is designed to meet the changing expectations of what public transport can be.
Mr Costa commented: “It was a pleasure to join Arriva East Midlands this morning for ‘Catch the Bus Week’ and to see their fantastic, brand-new ArrivaClick service in action. The new service has already been a tremendous success in its first few weeks at New Lubbesthorpe; with constituents having the ability to be able to use the service on demand using their smartphone. ‘Catch the Bus Week’ aims to encourage residents to use public transport more often, and with services like ArrivaClick, constituents can use public transport at their convenience for a more economically and environmentally friendly way to travel”.
Simon Finnie, Area Managing Director for Arriva Midlands South, said: “Catch the Bus Week is a fantastic opportunity that helps celebrate all the benefits of bus travel. Public transport, be that traditional buses, or more bespoke services like ArrivaClick offer communities much needed lifelines - reducing congestion, getting people to work and driving economic growth, and we are delighted to have been able to welcome our esteemed guests on board our vehicles to see first-hand the commitment and dedication we have to delivering those all-important services to the people within their constituencies.
