Yorkshire services statement 2024

4 November 2024:

After struggling to deliver services reliably in Yorkshire recently, Arriva will not be rebidding for some routes commissioned by local transport authorities when they expire in February. We will focus on the delivery of our remaining services, rather than running these contracts tendered by local transport authorities.

This measure is essential to improve services for customers given an ongoing shortage of drivers, despite our having recruited more drivers in the region. Further changes are being finalised and will be announced in the coming weeks. We will make sure our customers know about those updates as soon as possible.

Kim Cain, area director for Arriva Yorkshire said: “We’re sorry that you, our customers and communities, haven’t received the service you rightly expect from us.
“We’re determined to improve things, which is why we’re making these changes and we’ll keep you updated with any further news as soon as we’re able to.
“We’re working in partnership with the local transport authorities to ensure that the impact is minimised.”

The following services are affected from 22 February:
•    Services 21/22 Seacroft – Castleford and 571 Halifax - Shelf:  The contracts we hold are due to end on 22 February so it’s likely they’ll be taken over by other operators.
•    Service 212 Dewsbury - Wakefield: The last day of operation of this service will be 22 February and other operators have been asked to bid for the contract.

Additional changes are:
•    Service 51 Doncaster - Norton:  We will reduce the frequency of this route from every 30 minutes to hourly from 8 December. Evening and Sunday trips on this service will be run by Goodfellow Travel from the same date.
•    School services: We will be making some changes, but it’s important to note that all children who currently travel with us to school will continue to be able to travel by bus. We will be contacting individual schools to let them know of any revised arrangements in the coming weeks.

Further announcements about any changes will be posted here as soon as they are confirmed.
