Upcoming changes to our bus services in Milton Keynes
from 1 June 2025
From 1 June 2025, we’ll be making some changes to our bus network to ensure it better reflects how our customers are using our services.
We know any changes to bus times or routes can be disruptive and these decisions haven’t been made lightly. We’ve carefully reviewed passenger numbers, travel patterns and demand to provide services that work more efficiently for the majority of customers.
Here’s a summary of the upcoming changes:
4 – Wolverton to Milton Keynes and Bletchley
Service 4A will no longer operate. Route 4 will continue to run up to every 15 minutes between Bletchley and Milton Keynes city centre, and up to every 30 minutes beyond to Two Mile Ash, Greenleys and Wolverton (Monday to Saturday daytimes). We're also building on our continual improvements in punctuality by refining our timetable to keep buses running on time.
If you currently travel to or from Shenley Church End, you can continue to use Loop, which will still provide an hourly service to the area.
A termtime only journey will run to/from Wolverton to Shenley Church End to meet the timings of Denbigh School's day, before continuing to Milton Keynes city centre and Bletchley.
This change helps us maintain our great value fares for all our customers and the introduction of Loop still provides a regular service for Shenley Church End, ensuring the area remains connected at a suitable frequency for demand for buses in the area. We'll be reviewing Loop's timings later in the year.
5 & 6 – Wolverton to Milton Keynes and Lakes Estate
Following requests from many customers, we'll be running our new routes X2 and X3 through the Newton Leys development, offering speedier journeys into Milton Keynes city centre. This will also boost connectivity southwards to Leighton Buzzard, Dunstable, then fast along the Busway to Luton and Luton Airport. With this exciting addition to our network, we'll no longer be serving Newton Leys on route 5.
Both routes 5 and 6 will run as far as Lakes Estate only, still at the great turn-up-and-go frequency of every 10 minutes, Monday to Saturday daytimes on a new timetable, that builds on the great progress we've made in improving our timekeeping on this route.
7 – Wolverton to Milton Keynes
We're making a very minor change to our Sunday evening timetable. Most Sunday evening journeys will now run between Milton Keynes city centre and Bradville (Marlborough Roundabout).
This change reflects customer demand for buses in the area at this quieter time of the week. Buses on routes 4, 5 and 6 continue to serve Wolverton until late on Sunday evenings.
X2/X3 – London Luton Airport to Milton Keynes
Our F70/F77 buses between London Luton Airport, Luton, Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard and Milton Keynes will now be called X2 and X3.
Our new route X2 will now serve Apex Park, Clipstone Park, heading into Leighton Buzzard town centre along Hockliffe Road up to every hour, including in the evenings and on Sundays. Route X3 will serve Stanbridge and Tilsworth, continuing into Leighton Buzzard past Roundel Drive.
We’ll still serve Leighton Buzzard town centre, but to avoid disruptions from High Street closures buses will call at West Street every day of the week, making things simpler and more consistent.
Route X2 heads fast from Leighton Buzzard rail station to Newton Leys serving the entirety of the development (replacing route 5). Route X3 will continue to Stoke Hammond, calling at St Helena Avenue in Newton Leys, before both routes head to Bletchley, Stadium MK, Winterhill and Milton Keynes city centre. Buses continue to operate a one-way loop of Milton Keynes, calling at Milton Keynes Central rail station before heading to The Point and returning to Milton Keynes Hospital
X4 – Milton Keynes to Aylesbury
To provide a quicker journey between Milton Keynes and Heath and Reach, X4 will now run directly from Stadium MK, via Fenny Stratford, to Heath and Reach, Leighton Buzzard and beyond. This means we’ll no longer serve Bletchley, but it helps us deliver the faster, more direct link that many customers have been asking for. Our new routes X2 and X3 continue to link Leighton Buzzard with Bletchley, up to every 30 minutes combined.
To keep buses running smoothly, buses will now run only as far as The Point in Milton Keynes city centre. Onward journeys to Milton Keynes rail station are available every few minutes on the rest of our network using the 50p hopper-fare ticket.
We’ll still serve Leighton Buzzard town centre, but to avoid disruptions from High Street closures, buses will use Lake Street towards Milton Keynes and Market Square towards Aylesbury every day of the week, making things simpler and more consistent. High Street will no longer be served.
We’re continuing to serve Sandhills and extending the route to include Roman Gate and Grovebury Retail Park - now with a bus up to every hour in both directions. New bus stops will be installed around Roman Gate, allowing for faster journeys into Leighton Buzzard and beyond.
We’re also adjusting the timetable to reflect ongoing changes in traffic conditions, helping to keep things running smoothly.
M6 – Milton Keynes to Magna Park
Some low-used journeys from Mount Farm will no longer run. Buses will continue to serve Magna Park, with some very minor timetable changes.
