Service changes Darlington and County Durham July 2024
Customers are advised that we’re making changes to services in Darlington and throughout County Durham from Sunday 21st July. These changes follow a comprehensive review of punctuality and the successful award of contracts from Durham County Council, in respect of improved service provision within the area.
Service 1 – Darlington to Tow Law
Following customer requests, two additional journeys will operate Monday to Saturday evenings between Darlington Town Centre and Faverdale Grange at 2210 and 2310. The 2045 Monday to Saturday journey from Tow Law will now extend beyond Shildon and terminate at Faverdale.
Service 3 – Darlington to Skerne Park
Additional Saturday daytime journeys will operate between the Town Centre and Skerne Park to give a bus up to every 15 minutes.
Service 6 – Durham to Cockfield and Barnard Castle
Following a review punctuality, a revised timetable will be introduced seven days a week. As part of these adjustments, most journeys which currently terminate at West Auckland Eden Garage, will now terminate at West Auckland Club.
We are pleased to announce that on Sunday daytimes, the journeys which currently terminate at Bishop Auckland, will now extend to West Auckland Club. This will now provide two buses per hour throughout, improving access to the Tindale Crescent area following customer feedback.
Service 8 and 8A – Darlington to Ferryhill and Spennymoor
A revised timetable will be introduced following a review of punctuality.
Service 19 – Darlington to Faverdale
We are pleased to announce that a new Sunday service will be introduced between Darlington and Faverdale Industrial Est.
Service 22 and 22B – Durham to Peterlee and Sunderland
Following a major punctuality review exercise, a revised timetable will be introduced on this service throughout the week. Services will now operate half hourly throughout between Durham and Sunderland on a Monday to Saturday, with an hourly evening and Sunday daytime service.
Unfortunately, service 22B will be withdrawn, however the majority of route is covered by the increase of service 22. Passengers from the Acre Rigg area of Peterlee should consult with Durham County Council for options of the replacement service for this area.
Service 23 – Hartlepool to Peterlee and Sunderland
Unfortunately, from the 21st July, this service will be withdrawn between Peterlee and Sunderland. However, with the increase of frequency on service 22, we will still maintain two buses per hour between Peterlee, Easington Colliery, Dalton Park and Sunderland.
Passengers from the south of Peterlee will be required to swap buses at Peterlee Bus Station for onward journeys.
Following requests from East Durham College, one journey a day will extend from Peterlee Bus Station to the East Durham campus on Burnhope Way. This increases the travel opportunities and makes journeys easier from the Hartlepool area to the college.
A revised timetable will be introduced Monday to Saturday following the above changes.
Service 24 – Durham to Peterlee and Hartlepool
Following a major punctuality review exercise, a revised timetable will be introduced on this service throughout the week. However, services will continue to operate half hourly throughout between Durham and Hartlepool on a Monday to Saturday, with an hourly evening and Sunday daytime service.
As part of these changes, we will be revising the route in the northern area of Hartlepool. Journeys will now additionally operate via the West View area before reaching the University Hospital.
Service 43 – Durham to Esh Winning
A revised timetable is introduced following a review of punctuality. These changes are designed to help improve the reliability of service, especially in light of the increasing traffic congestion faced in the Nevilles Cross area of the city.
Service 48 – Durham to New Brancepeth
A revised timetable is introduced following a review of punctuality. These changes are designed to help improve the reliability of service, especially in light of the increasing traffic congestion faced in the Nevilles Cross area of the city.
The current afternoon schoolday only journey between Crossgate Moor and New Brancepeth will be withdrawn.
Service 49 and 49A – Durham to Brandon
A revised timetable is introduced following a review of punctuality. These changes are designed to help improve the reliability of service, especially in light of the increasing traffic congestion faced in the Nevilles Cross area of the city.
Service 56 – Durham to Bishop Auckland and Tindale Crescent
With funding support from Durham County Council and the region’s Bus Service Improvement Plan, we are pleased to announce that Sunday daytime journeys will now extend beyond Coxhoe, through to Bishop Auckland and Tindale Crescent.
Service 64 – Sherburn Estate to Durham and Arnison Centre
A revised timetable will be introduced following a review of punctuality and reliability of the service, which is designed to help with the increase of congestion faced, especially around school start and finishing times.
With funding support from Durham County Council and the region’s Bus Service Improvement Plan, we are pleased to announce that later daily evening journeys will once again be introduced on this service.
Service X26 and X27 – Darlington to Catterick and Colburn
A revised timetable will be introduced to assist with punctuality in the afternoon peaks, evenings, and Sundays. The peak hour extensions to/from Marne Barracks on service X26 will no longer operate owing to low passenger use.
Service X46 – Durham to Crook and Stanhope
A revised timetable is introduced following a review of punctuality. These changes are designed to help improve the reliability of service, especially in light of the increasing traffic congestion faced in the Nevilles Cross area of the city.
A new afternoon journey will be introduced between Crook and Durham to plug the gap in service on a Monday to Saturday afternoon in this direction.
Service X66 and X67 – Darlington to Stockton and Middlesbrough
Some minor timing changes on Monday to Friday afternoon journeys to assist with punctuality.
A new Sunday Morning journey will be introduced at 0725 from Darlington to Middlesbrough.
