Update on Doncaster bus service changes
UPDATE:
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the consultation on proposed changes to our 51 service, which was run in collaboration with South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.
Following the feedback we received, this proposal will not be going ahead.
The existing route and timetable for service 51 will continue.
We are proposing to make some changes to our bus services in Doncaster from 7th April.
We are working closely with South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, the Mayor of South Yorkshire Oliver Coppard, and Ed Miliband MP for Doncaster North on a new bus network for Adwick, Askern, Bentley, Burghwallis, Carcroft, Campsall, Old Campsall, Norton, Skellow, Sutton and Toll Bar.
Together, we’ve been listening to feedback from passengers who use our 51 service, and to councillors in the area who have been raising concerns from their residents in the area.
The Mayor of South Yorkshire Oliver Coppard, and Ed Miliband MP for Doncaster North, have then asked us to devise a new network with this feedback, and we’ve been planning this alongside South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.
We are proposing to withdraw service 51, and to replace it with these new routes:
- New service 44 running hourly Monday to Saturday daytime, and serving Askern, Norton Common Road, Norton, Campsall, Old Campsall, Burghwallis, Skellow, Carcroft, Adwick, Toll Bar, Bentley and Doncaster.
- New service 45 running hourly Monday to Saturday daytime, and serving Askern, Norbreck Road estate, Sutton, Carcroft, Adwick, Toll Bar, Bentley and Doncaster.
- New service 45A running two-hourly each evening and Sunday daytime, and serving Campsall, Norton, Norton Common Road, Askern, Norbreck Road estate, Sutton, Carcroft, Adwick, Toll Bar, Bentley and Doncaster.
- A limited number of peak time journeys on new service 45 will start from Selby in the morning, and continue to Selby in the afternoon peak.
- Some service 45 trips will continue to and start from Campsmount Academy.
The proposed changes deliver the following benefits:
- Hourly buses serving Old Campsall
- Hourly buses serving Norton Common Road
- Fewer buses on the Norbreck Road estate – requested by a Norton & Askern ward councillor
- Faster buses between Askern and Doncaster
- Faster buses between Norton and Doncaster
- Peak journeys to enable Selby and Eggborough residents to work in Doncaster
We’re proposing to trial this new network between 7th April and 31st August to test the level of demand on the routes, before deciding on whether to make this a permanent change.
