North East Tap on Tap off launch and Fare Changes

Contactless fare capping launching across all Arriva North East buses from Sunday 12 March 2023 with changes to fares and zones

We are launching Tap on Tap Off (Toto) technology making us the first operator to roll the technology out across all our buses. 

Tap on, Tap off makes it even easier to use services without needing to worry about whether you have the best value ticket for your journey – as the technology will automatically work that out for you, and your fare will be capped at the best value day or weekly ticket price.

Full details are available at the link below, and if you have a bank card (or a digital wallet, such as Apple Pay or Google Wallet), you are already good to go! Just look out for our Tap On, Tap Off readers as you board and exit the bus.

Customers are also advised of some upcoming changes to Arriva zonal and Routesaver products and fares within the North East. Continued growth in costs such as fuel and utilities means that some prices need to be adjusted from the same date.

Which fares are changing?

Only zonal tickets and Routesaver products will be changing, with single fares continuing to offer great value for passengers across England benefitting from the UK Government £2 fare cap until the end of March. 

A small number of zonal products will also be withdrawn as Arriva look to continue to simplify the ticket range in the region. Passengers with longer term tickets do not need to do anything as their ticket will continue to be accepted until its normal expiry date. Employer Travel Club members with affected tickets will be contacted directly to explain what will happen next.
