New routes and times for Derby’s 2 and 2A

We’re really excited to be revamping services between Swadlincote, Melbourne, Chellaston, Shelton Lock and Allenton - both into and out of Derby. We’ll still be offering a turn-up-and-go timetable and simple, great value fares, both on-bus and on our app. We’ll update our timetables as soon as we can but, in the meantime, here’s how things are going to look from Sunday 2 October.

We’re putting 2 and 2A together

As part of these changes, we are simplifying routes through Shelton Lock and Chellaston. Combined, the new routes 2 and 2A will run up to every 10 minutes during Monday to Saturday daytimes between Chellaston, Allenton and Derby.

You can take a look at the new timetable here, to help you plan your journeys, and we’ve detailed some of what is changing for each route below:

Service 2

Buses will run up to every 20 minutes, Monday to Saturday daytimes, between Derby, Allenton, along Maple Drive to Chellaston. One bus per hour will only go as far as Chellaston (Bonnie Prince), one bus per hour will continue to Melbourne and Swadlincote, and one bus per hour will run to Infinity Park Way and beyond, to Royal Glen Park, where buses will turn around at Prestwick Way. 

We will no longer be serving Goseley Estate or Midway in Swadlincote, due to low demand for buses in these areas. Buses will now head into and out of Swadlincote more directly, along Hartshorne Road and Swadlincote Road.

On Sundays, service 2 will run to Swadlincote hourly, with the last bus leaving Derby at 17:49. Buses will continue to run every hour into the evening, but only going as far as Chellaston, Bonnie Prince.

Service 2A

Buses will run up to every 20 minutes, Monday to Saturday daytimes, between Derby, Allenton, Sinfin Lane to Chellaston, Snelsmoor Lane. During evenings and Sundays, buses will run up to every hour.

During evenings, the 2 and 2A will provide a combined 30-minute frequency between Derby and Allenton, with buses continuing hourly along Maple Drive to Chellaston Bonnie Prince (2), and along Sinfin Avenue to Chellaston, Snelsmoor Lane (2A) respectively.

Sadly, we’ll no longer be running evening buses beyond Chellaston to Melbourne and Swadlincote, as a result of discontinued funding that previously supported these journeys. Routes 2B and 2C will also no longer run, as both are replaced by the revised 2 and 2A.

Getting your 2 pennies’ worth

With simple, low fares between Derby and Chellaston, there really couldn’t be a better time to join us for the journey. We continue to offer a range of great value fares. All day travel within Derby city (Zone A and Zone B) is just £4.60 for an adult, with even bigger discounts for weekly, monthly, and annual passes. 

Adult journeys entirely within Derby Zone A or Derby Zone B are just £1.90 single or £3.60 return, and any adult journey between the two zones in Derby Zone A + Zone B are just £2.60 single and £4.30 return. Other graduated fares are available for journeys beyond Derby to Melbourne and Swadlincote, with further discounts for young people.
