Coast Road Roadworks
Affecting services 306 & 308
Following confirmation from North Tyneside Council, sections of the Coast Road will be closed, which will affect services 306 and 308 between 15th and 28th January 2026.
The 1st closure will take place on Thursday 15 January from 6.00pm, during this time, the westbound Coast Road will be closed between Billy Mill and Norham Road. As a result, buses travelling towards Newcastle will be diverted.
Service 308 will operate to Billy Mill traffic lights, continue straight over and U-turn at the roundabout, then travel back along Billy Mill Lane. The service will then turn left towards Shiremoor (New York Bypass), turn left at the roundabout onto Norham Road, and follow the road down to rejoin the Coast Road towards Newcastle.
Service 306 will continue straight ahead at Billy Mill traffic lights onto Billy Mill Lane, turn left towards Shiremoor (New York Bypass), then turn left at the roundabout onto Norham Road. The service will then follow the road down and rejoin the Coast Road towards Newcastle.
During the closure, the following stops will not be served: Billy Mill (opposite My Shanghai) and Norham Road Slip Road.
On Friday 16 January and Monday 19 January from 6.00pm. the westbound Coast Road will be closed between Norham Road and Silverlink.
As a result, buses travelling towards Newcastle will be diverted.
Both services will leave the Coast Road at Norham Road Slip Road and turn right onto Norham Road North. Buses will follow the road to the traffic lights at the junction with Middle Engine Lane, then turn left towards Silverlink. At the roundabout, services will turn left towards Silverlink and rejoin their normal route at the Coast Road / A19 roundabout.
During the diversion, buses will observe the stop on The Silverlink, opposite Stoneacre Car Sales.
On Wednesday 21 January and Thursday 22 January from 6.00pm the eastbound Coast Road will be closed between Silverlink and Norham Road.
As a result, buses travelling towards Blyth and Tynemouth will be diverted.
Both services will leave the Coast Road at Silverlink and take the second exit towards Silverlink. Buses will follow the road to the third roundabout, then turn right onto Middle Engine Lane. At the traffic lights, services will turn right onto Norham Road and rejoin their normal route at the Coast Road junction.
During the diversion, buses will observe the stop on The Silverlink, opposite Stoneacre Car Sales.
On Wednesday 28 January from 6.00pm , the eastbound Coast Road will be closed between Norham Road and Billy Mill.
As a result, buses travelling towards Blyth and Tynemouth will be diverted.
Service 308 will operate from Norham Road, turning left onto Norham Road North. The service will continue to the roundabout, turn right onto the New York Bypass, then follow the road and rejoin its normal route.
Service 306 will operate from Norham Road, turning left onto Norham Road North. The service will continue to the roundabout, turn right onto the New York Bypass, then turn right onto Billy Mill Lane, follow the road, and rejoin its normal route.
During the closure, the following stops will not be served:
- Billy Mill (outside My Shanghai)
- Norham Road (slip road)
Services will instead observe the first stop on Norham Road North, with service 306 also serving stops on Billy Mill Lane.
