Closure of Bluebell Hill Gillingham Bound

On Thursday 1st December 2022

At 8pm on Thursday 1 December, the A229 Bluebell Hill will have an overnight full closure northbound until 6am.

This will enable contractors to complete the directional drilling procedure for the emergency gas repairs. From 6am on Friday 2 December, the road will reopen with one lane northbound. This procedure will prevent having to close the southbound carriageway fully for two weeks. If this isn’t successful, additional trenching will be required which will increase disruption.

For the duration of the planned closure the 101 service from Maidstone will be diverted along the A249 (Detling Hill / Sittingbourne Road) joining the M2 at junction 5, heading towards London and then re-joining line of route at the top of Bluebell Hill

The suggested diversion route has the potential to add around 30 minutes to the scheduled journey time between Maidstone and Gillingham so to protect the service at the Gillingham end from 20:00 hrs two buses will operate from Chatham Bus Station to Maidstone and one bus will serve between Chatham and Twydall.
