Back to updates
Tonbridge Road at Barming has collapsed and buses are being diverted as a result. Long delays will also affect buses travelling along London Road as a result of other diverted traffic.
Tonbridge Road, Maidstone, has collapsed as a result of the appearance of a sink hole near its junction with Farleigh Lane and Fountain Lane at Barming.
The road is closed at that point and is not expected to re-open until early August. Buses on Services 3, 6, 6X, 7 and 575 are being diverted.
There will be some changes to the diversionary routes from Wednesday 13th June, from which date they will be as follows:
From Maidstone, Service 3 buses will follow the normal route along Tonbridge Road as far as the Cherry Tree Inn but will then run via Fant Lane, Gatland Lane, Farleigh Lane, Fountain Lane and Hermitage Lane to Maidstone Hospital.
In the opposite direction, Service 3 is starting from Maidstone Hospital and running via Hermitage Lane towards London Road and is therefore unable to serve the bus stops at Oakapple Lane and Taj Barming in either direction. It is then running via London Road and Queen's Road to Tonbridge Road (Cherry Tree Inn) and then as normal into the town.
Service 6X is taking its normal route between Tunbridge Wells Hospital and Maidstone Hopsital but those buses that continue to and from Maidstone Town Centre are running direct via Hermitage Lane and London Road between Maidstone Hospital and Maidstone West Station.
These diversions are quite lengthy and severe delays may occur at busy times of day.
Services 6 and 7 towards Maidstone are running as normal to Beverley Road but are then diverted via Farleigh Lane, Gatland Lane, Hackney Road and St. Michael's Road to Tonbridge Road, taking the normal route between St. Michael's Church and the town centre.
These buses are unable to serve the bus stops on Tonbridge Road between St. Andrew's Church and The Poplars/Milton Street. That section of the road is only being served at present by Service 3.
Service 6 and 7 buses towards Tunbridge Wells will follow the normal route from Maidstone town centre via Tonbridge Road to the Cherry Tree Inn but will then divert via Fant Lane, Gatland Lane and Farleigh Lane to Tonbridge Road and then normal route to Tunbridge Wells.
Service 575 buses are running between Tonbridge Road and London Road via Queen's Road instead of via Fountain Lane and Hermitage Lane.
Diverted buses will stop at all bus stops on their diversionary routes if required, with the exception of Service 3 which will run non-stop over the diversions.
London Road buses will also be affected by delays due to the amount of traffic being diverted away from Tonbridge Road and using London Road instead.
Please bear with our drivers who will be doing their best to keep delays to a minimum but the traffic conditions are beyond their control.
If travelling to attend appointments or make connections, please allow more time for your journey.
