New times for buses between Kings Hill and Tonbridge schools from 1st September 2019

Start Date: 31/07/2019

Location: Kings Hill, Maidstone, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and West Malling

There will be changes to the timetable of buses currently numbered in the 77/147/148 series to improve reliability and some will be numbered between 771 to 776. There will also be a new 77X in each direction that will by-pass Tonbridge Town Centre to give a quicker journey.

Following a review of the current services, new timetables are being introduced for introduction from September 2019. Whilst the same number of buses will be scheduled, timings will be revised to better meet school start and finish times and to speed up services, where possible.

As well as the core route 77, services at school times will be renumbered into a simpler common series 771-776 with a new express bus (which omits Tonbridge town centre) numbered 77X.

The details for each school will be as follows:

Weald of Kent and Tonbridge Grammar schools

The same number of departures will serve these schools as are provided today. There will be one fast bus in each peak period (77X) which will run via Cannon Lane, bypassing Tonbridge Town Centre, giving shorter journey times to and from Kings Hill and missing some of the traffic delays.

One morning bus (771) will no longer serve Cage Green which also shortens the time to school from Kings Hill.

Hillview School

In the mornings, there will be one fast bus (77X) which will run via Cannon Lane, bypassing Tonbridge Town Centre, giving shorter journey times to and from Kings Hill and missing some of the traffic delays.

One morning bus (771) will no longer serve Cage Green which also shortens the time to school from Kings Hill.

In the afternoons, on Mondays to Thursdays, one bus will operate earlier at 15.30 (771) to better meet the school finishing time.

There would be no change to the early Friday afternoon bus on route 77 at 14.08.

Judd School

In the mornings, the direct bus will continue unchanged, together with the Autocar 205 bus which runs via Paddock Wood. In the afternoons, bus 205 will continue, as will a range of other services with stops along the A26 and from Tonbridge Station.

The bus on route 77 will still cater for the 10.15 Monday morning start time.

Hayesbrook School

In the mornings, the direct bus will continue unchanged but numbered as route 773.
In the afternoons, on Mondays to Wednesdays, the earlier bus from Hillview School (771) will serve Tonbridge Station at 15.37 providing a more suitable journey time home.

On Thursday afternoons, a range of other services along the A26 and from Tonbridge Station will still be provided.

The early Friday afternoon bus leaving Tonbridge Station at 14.15 (route 77) will also still be provided.

Tunbridge Wells

The 06.49 bus to Tunbridge Wells would start from Hadlow instead. However, the faster 06.51 service, which almost all Kings Hill students use, would continue unchanged although numbered as 774.
