Changes to Southend area bus times from 23rd July 2017

Start Date: 23/07/2017

Location: Southend, Rayleigh, Rochford

We will be making some changes to services in the Southend, Rayleigh and Rochford area to improve reliability and also to give improved frequencies on busier sections of route.

We will be making some changes to services in the Southend, Rayleigh and Rochford area to improve reliability and also to give improved frequencies on busier sections of route.

The main change will be the splitting of Service 29 into two separate routes with an improved frequency along Woodgrange Drive as a result.

Details of the effects on each service are shown below and new timetable leaflets will be available from our usual outlets.

Click the service headings below to see the new timetables. To can view the new Southend area network map here.

Service 1
An additional bus will run on Schooldays at 0827 hours from Rayleigh to Southend Travel Centre.

Sunday Service 4A
No changes.

New Service 6
This new service will replace the eastern section of Service 29 between the town centre and Temple Sutton and will give an improved frequency along Woodgrange Drive.

It will run from Cokefield Avenue along the existing 29 route via Royston Avenue and Sutton Road to the Travel Centre and will then continue via Woodgrange Drive, Lifstan Way and Hamstel Road to the Archer Avenue and Newington Avenue loop. It will then return via the same route to the town and then via Sutton Road to Cokefield Avenue.

You can view the route map here.

At the Travel Centre buses will pick up at Stand H towards Woodgrange Drive and Archer Avenue and at Stand K towards Sutton Road and Temple Sutton.

Monday to Saturday buses will run up to every 15 minutes between the Travel Centre and Archer Avenue, and up to every 30 minutes between the Travel Centre and Cokefield Avenue.

This will provide a more frequent service to the Archer Avenue loop and, combined with Services 7 and 8, a more frequent service of up to eight buses per hour along Woodgrange Drive. The journey time into town from Archer Avenue and Newington Avenue will be quicker than via the existing route.

On Sundays buses will run every 40 minutes between Cokefield Avenue and the Travel Centre. The Sunday service to the Archer Avenue area will no longer run due to insufficient use having been made of the service that was introduced last September.

Service 7/8
The main Monday to Saturday daytime frequency will be every fifteen minutes between Shoeburyness ASDA and Hockley, with alternate buses providing a half-hourly service to Great Wakering and Landwick. Beyond Hockley there will continue to be a half-hourly service to Rayleigh.

The service along Woodgrange Drive between Southchurch Avenue and Lifstan Way will be improved to eight buses an hour during the main part of the day on Mondays to Saturdays, provided by Services 7 and 8 and new Service 6.

The service to Shoeburyness ASDA will be improved to run every fifteen minutes instead of every twenty during the main part of the day on Mondays to Saturdays.

Additional buses will run at peak times on Mondays to Fridays to cater for those travelling to schools at Rochford, Hockley and Rayleigh.

We will also be deploying additional resources on Saturdays to help overcome the considerable traffic delays that have continued to delay our buses in Rayleigh on that day of the week.

The buses that currently run from Thorpe Bay via Bournes Green to Woodgrange Drive will instead run to Shoeburyness ASDA due to very poor usage of this service in the Bournes Green area, giving an improved service to ASDA.

Service 9
There will be minor changes to improve train connections at Rayleigh Station and to match the scheduled time on Sunday evenings more closely with the time actually taken, giving quicker journeys.

Service 29
This service will be split so that the 29 will continue to run between Southend Travel Centre and Belgrave Road at its existing frequencies while the eastern section of the route covering Sutton Road, Royston Avenue, Temple Sutton and Archer Avenue will be replaced by new Service 6, details of which are shown above.
