Changes to bus times in the Southend, Rayleigh, Rochford and Castle Point areas from 4th September, with lots of improvements!

Start Date: 04/09/2016

Location: Southend, Rayleigh, Rochford, Basildon

We will be making some changes to our services from 4th September which will include lots of good news, with increased frequencies, new links, improved Sunday services and timing changes to improve reliability. The 29 will be extended to the Archer Avenue area. However, we are unable to continue running Service 5 to Basildon as insufficient use is being made of it to cover the cost of providing it.

We will be making some changes to our services in the Southend, Rayleigh, Rochford and Castle Point areas from 4th September which will include lots of good news, with increased frequencies, new links, improved Sunday services and timing changes to improve reliability.

We will also be extending the 29 to the Archer Avenue area beyond the existing terminus at Cokefield Avenue.

However, we have had to review Service 5 that runs between Southend, Leigh, Hadleigh, Benfleet and Basildon as it has been carrying insufficient people to cover the cost of providing the service.

Full details of the changes, service by service, areshown below. You can view the new network map here.

Service 1: Shoeburyness – Southchurch – Southend – Westcliff – Leigh – Hadleigh – Thundersley – Rayleigh
- The timetable will be revised, particularly at peak times, to improve reliability but the same level of service will continue.
- On Sundays, the times will be adjusted so that Services 1, 7, 8 and 9 will provide a ten-minute service between Southend town centre and ASDA.

Services 4/4A Southend – Southchurch – North Shoebury - Great Wakering - Landwick
- These services will be replaced on Mondays to Saturdays by revised Services 7 and 8. On Sundays, buses will still be numbered 4A and will run to their existing times.
- There will be a more frequent service to Great Wakering and Landwick with buses every twenty minutes on Mondays to Saturdays, all of which will run via ASDA.
- The improved service will also give new, direct, links from the Great Wakering area to Thorpe Bay Station, Southend Hospital, Southend Airport and Rayleigh.

Service 5 Southend – Leigh – Hadleigh – Thundersley – Benfleet – Pitsea – Basildon
Due to insufficient use being made of this service, the cost of providing it is greater than the amount of revenue we are receiving and we are unable to continue running at a loss.

Like all bus companies, we are a commercial business and we are required to run profitably.
Consequently we will no longer run this service.

We are unable, therefore, to continue running this service at a loss for any longer but Service 1 will continue to provide a ten-minute service along London Road between Southend and Thundersley during the week and half-hourly on Sundays.

There will, however, still be a frequent service along London Road between Southend and Thundersley, provided by Service 1 that runs every 10 minutes for the main part of the day.

Services 7/8 Shoeburyness – Thorpe Bay - Woodgrange Drive – Southend – Rochford – Hockley – Rayleigh
- The timetable will be revised and there will be significant changes to the route between Southend and Shoeburyness.
- The Monday to Saturday daytime frequency will be increased to run every ten minutes between Southend, Woodgrange Drive and Thorpe Bay Station. Alternate buses will then run either via Station Road, Maplin Way North, Bournes Green Chase and Thorpe Hall Avenue to Woodgrange Drive or via ASDA to Great Wakering and Landwick, replacing less-frequent Services 4 and 4A.
- This will give an improved twenty-minute service to Great Wakering and Landwick with new links from there to Thorpe Bay Station, the hospital, airport and Rayleigh.
- Blackgate Road and the bus stops at the Angel/North Shoebury Corner and St. Mary’s Church in North Shoebury Road will no longer be served.
- On Sundays, the times will be adjusted so that Services 1, 7, 8 and 9 will provide a ten-minute service between Southend town centre and ASDA.
- The Schooldays Service 407 journeys will no longer run due to insufficient use being made of them.

Service 9 Shoeburyness East Beach – Thorpe Bay – Eastern Esplanade - Southend – Airport – Eastwood – Rayleigh
- There will be minor timing changes to improve reliability and to give better connections with trains at Rayleigh.
- On Sundays, the times will be adjusted so that Services 1, 7, 8 and 9 will provide a ten-minute service between Southend town centre and ASDA.

Service 29 Belgrave Road – Belfairs – Fairfax Drive – Southend – Sutton Road – Temple Sutton
- The timetable will be revised to improve reliability and buses will continue to run every 20 minutes on Mondays to Saturdays.
- At Temple Sutton the route will be extended beyond McDonald’s to serve Hamstel Road, Archer Avenue, Newington Avenue, Poynings Avenue and Whittington Avenue.
- The Sunday timetable will be improved to run half-hourly along the whole length of route from Belgrave Road to Temple Sutton and Archer Avenue. This will double the frequency between Belgrave Road and the town centre and give a new Sunday service for Sutton Road, Royston Avenue, Temple Sutton and Archer Avenue.
