MAD North West

It’s time to vote for your champion bus driver for the North West! Take a look at the contenders below and vote for your favourite driver.

Alan Pedley

Name: Alan Pedley

Depot: Runcorn

Age: 54

Where are you from? Newton le-Willows

Do you have any children? Yes, I have a young lad of 14 and a girl aged 10

How long have you worked for Arriva? 27 months

Is this your first job with Arriva? Before I worked for Arriva as a bus driver I was on the railways.

What do you enjoy most about being a bus driver?  I love driving, love meeting people and can’t believe I get paid for this job.

What did you want to be when you grew up? It had to be something that had 'man' at the end, so 'railwayman'!

How do you feel about being nominated for a MAD award? I'm very touched and honoured, having been in the bus industry only just over two years - it's really nice.

What would it mean to win the overall award? That would be amazing! An elderly lady of 89 travels on the bus every day and loves all the bus drivers. She would be proud of me.

How do you think your passengers describe you? I like to think as a happy-go-lucky kind of guy. I need people to be happy and want to make people’s day.

What is your favourite route to drive? Service 500, between Liverpool city centre and Liverpool John Lennon Airport. I see the regulars on the bus and then when I get to the airport I meet different people - it's interesting.

How do you think the bus system helps your local community? It brings people together, old people who can’t get around and helps people out. We do charity work, help people with epilepsy, and make people laugh.

Now it's time to vote!
