Tap On Tap Off, the quick and easy way to pay for your adult bus travel is now on board the 800 and 850.

How it works

Simply hop on the bus and tap your card or device on the ticket machine when you board. You won’t be issued a ticket so just take a seat. 

As you’re leaving the bus tap your card on the ticket machine by the driver again. We then automatically calculate and charge the best value fare. 

So, you can tap on and off as many times as you want in a day and travel knowing you’ll always pay the best price.

How we calculate your fare

We calculate your fare to make sure you’re charged the best adult price:

• When you tap on and tap off for one journey, we’ll work out the adult single fare for that journey and you’ll just pay the single fare, currently capped at £2
• If you make additional journeys throughout the same day, your payment will be capped at an adult Day ticket price for the zone you’re travelling in. Travel outside of the Reading zone will be capped at the Orbit Day price.

For now using tap on tap off offers the best value for travel during any one single day. If you travel more frequently, on most days of the week, you may get better value buying a weekly, monthly or longer-term ticket – which you can continue to purchase on our app.

When you pay remember:

• Your payment history is linked to your card or device so make sure you use the same one each time you travel. If you switch it may be treated as a new payment method and you might not benefit from the price caps.
• Present one payment option – take your card out of your purse or wallet so the system doesn’t pick up more than one card otherwise the wrong card may be charged.
