District Operations Manager - Medway & Swale


Arriva is a division of Deutsche Bahn AG, a leading worldwide provider of transport and logistics services. Arriva Southern Counties is part of Arriva’s UK Bus division and locally operates some 650 buses in an area stretching from north Essex, across Kent and Medway, to the Surrey / Hampshire border.


We are now looking to recruit a District Operations Manager to be based at our Gillingham depot, in turn also overseeing a small operation in Sheerness.  Across the district, we employ some 250 staff and operate a fleet of 130 vehicles on commercial and contracted bus services.


Leading and motivating your operational team to improve service delivery, and all aspects of service quality, will be a key part of this role.  The successful applicant will be accountable for local trade union liaison and negotiation, resource planning and the preparation and monitoring of depot budgets and forecasts.  Close team work with staff at all grades and also with our engineering and commercial teams will be essential to ensure KPI targets are met in all areas of depot performance, including customer satisfaction, depot profitability, service quality and employee satisfaction.  You will also liaise with internal and external customers, including local authorities and other key stakeholders, as required.


The successful applicant will have exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal), be highly organized, with the ability to work unsupervised, and the ability to use their own initiative to solve problems.  They will demonstrate considerable people management skills, have a keen eye for detail and a thorough knowledge of operations and regulatory controls.  You will also have a proven commitment to health and safety.
