On 1st April 2008 an exciting new travel scheme comes into effect for the over-60s and eligible disabled people in England. Now you can travel FREE on local buses anywhere in England between 9.30am and 11pm on weekdays and all day weekends and public holidays. So you can go pretty much where you want, when you want.
What's the benefit?
It's free and easy. Whether you want to nip into town more often or explore new places, you can. Now instead of shelling-out for petrol and parking, check out the bus times, travel for free and enjoy the view.
All the complications about journeys between local authority area are being swept away, meaning it's easier to travel free and go further by bus than ever before. Just hop on and go! And no matter how long your journey lasts within England, it won't cost you a penny.
How do I get a free bus pass?
Bus passes are issued free by local authorities, some of which may also offer extra benefits, although a charge may apply to these extra services.

Are there any restrictions?
Scotland and Wales already have free travel arrangements and the new scheme applies just to journeys in England. For bus journeys across a border a fare may be charged for the part of the journey outside England, although some local authorities in border areas may offer a concession for the whole journey.
