  • Convenient connections at the Regent Centre from Ashington, Blyth, Cramlington and Morpeth to the RVI and Freeman Hospital.
  • All of the changes are described in detail below. Simply click on the links to download copies of the new timetables, which are also available on buses and from our Travel Shop in the Newcastle Haymarket Bus Station.

Service 46

This service is being extended to the RVI and the former General Hospital, now the Campus for Ageing and Vitality (CAV), on West Road.

On Monday to Friday daytimes, buses will run every 15 minutes (as now) between Great Park (Featherstone Grove), Brunton Park, Regent Centre, Gosforth and Newcastle. However, most journeys will be retimed to improve punctuality and reduce congestion in the Haymarket Bus Station. Alternate buses will extend to the RVI and CAV providing a great new half-hourly service to these places. Buses will use stand V in the Haymarket Bus Station and call at the RVI and CAV only.

On Monday to Friday evenings, buses will run hourly between Brunton Park, Regent Centre, Gosforth and Newcastle, then half-hourly from there to the RVI and CAV. Unfortunately, due to problems with parked cars, we are no longer able to serve Princes Road, South Bend, Greenfield Road and Queensway in the evening. Buses will instead start and finish at Polwarth Drive terminus.

On Saturday daytimes, buses will run every 15 minutes (as now) between Great Park (Featherstone Grove), Brunton Park, Regent Centre, Gosforth and Newcastle. However, as on Mondays to Fridays, most journeys will be retimed to improve punctuality and reduce congestion in the Haymarket Bus Station.

Saturday evening buses will run hourly between Brunton Park, Regent Centre, Gosforth and Newcastle, starting and finishing at Polwarth Drive terminus.

On Sundays, buses will run hourly between Brunton Park (Polwarth Drive terminus), Regent Centre, Gosforth and Newcastle. Most journeys will be retimed to run a few minutes earlier or later to improve reliability.

New service 553

This service will provide a new regular link between the Freeman Hospital, Gosforth and the Regent Centre. Buses will run every 30 minutes between 0800 and 2200 on Mondays to Fridays. For other journeys between the Freeman Hospital and the Regent Centre, including earlier morning ones, please see service 554.

At the Freeman Hospital, buses will pick up and drop off outside the main entrance as well as on Freeman Road, giving you the best possible access to the site.

Service 554

This service will run via the Freeman Hospital, improving links with Gosforth, the Regent Centre, Four Lane Ends and Quorum Business Park. Most journeys will take 2-3 minutes longer than now, but there will be no change to arrival and departure times at Four Lane Ends and Quorum Business Park.
