County Durham Service Changes October 2014

Arriva North East will be making some changes to bus services in the County Durham and Darlington area from Sunday 26 October 2014

Nick Knox, area managing director for Arriva North East, said: “It is important that we review our networks to ensure that we are consistently serving our passengers with the best possible service.”

 

Summary of changes  (Darlington)

Service X1

Darlington – Shildon – Bishop Auckland – Crook – Tow Law

Following customer requests a new stop at the junction of Bondgate and Four Riggs will be introduced

 

Service X26/X27/26a

Darlington – Barton – Skeeby – Richmond – Catterick Garrison/Colburn

To improve punctuality a revised peak timetable has been introduced

To improve connections with northbound trains arriving at Darlington Railway Station, evening and Sunday journeys have been retimed and will operate slightly later than current.

 

Service X66

Darlington – North Road – Salters Lane – A66 – Stockton – Middlesbrough

To improve punctuality, especially between Stockton and Middlesbrough minor changes to the timetable have been made.

 

Service 3

Darlington – Woodland Road – Nunnery Lane – Mowden

Minor change to the morning peak timetable to improve punctuality. Some journeys will no longer operate due to low usage

  • Monday to Friday, 06.50hrs Darlington to Mowden
  • Monday to Friday, 17.11hrs Mowden to Darlington
  • Monday to Saturday, 18.09hrs Mowden to Darlington
  • Saturday, 08.06hrs Darlington to Mowden

 

Service 4

Darlington – Corporation Road – Bates Avenue – Minors Crescent

  • The daily 23.35hrs from Darlington to Minors Crescent will no longer operate due to low usage

Service 6

Durham – Spennymoor – Bishop Auckland – West Auckland – Cockfield

  • Minor timetable changes to improve punctuality
  • Later buses between Durham, Bishop Auckland, West Auckland and Cockfield on Monday to Saturday evenings
  • A small number of early morning journeys will no longer operate due to low usage

 

Service 21, 21A, X21

Darlington/Middlesbrough – Sedgefield – The Trimdons – Deaf Hill – Wingate – Peterlee – Sunderland

  • The 21 and 21A will continue to run up to every 30 minutes on Monday to Saturday daytimes, hourly on Sundays, between Peterlee and Sedgefield. The 21 extends hourly to Darlington via Newton Aycliffe and the 21A extends hourly to Middlesbrough via Stockton
  • New fast X21 between Peterlee and Sunderland running up to half-hourly on Mondays to Saturdays via the A19. Guaranteed connection with the 21 in Peterlee (no change of bus needed), offering new links from Newton Aycliffe, Sedgefield, The Trimdons, Deaf Hill and Wingate to Sunderland
  • Faster route for the 21 and 21A between Wingate and Peterlee, which will see buses serve Pennine Drive in Peterlee to offer new links to customers in this area
  • The 21 and 21A will no longer serve Shotton. Alternative buses to Peterlee are available on the 22 and 24. Customers travelling from Shotton to Wingate, The Trimdons, Sedgefield, Newton Aycliffe, Darlington, Stockton and Middlesbrough will need to change buses in Peterlee

 

Service 22

Durham – Thornley – Wheatley Hill – Shotton – Peterlee – Easington – Dalton Park – New Seaham – Ryhope – Sunderland

  • Revised route from Durham to Sunderland via Thornley, Wheatley Hill, Shotton, Peterlee, Easington Village, Dalton Park, New Seaham and Ryhope. Buses will run up to every 30 minutes on Monday to Saturday daytimes, up to hourly in the evening and on Sundays
  • Works with the 23 to offer up to a 15-minute service from Peterlee to Sunderland, and with the 24 to offer up to a 15-minute service from Peterlee to Durham
  • New links from Thornley and Wheatley Hill to Dalton Park, Ryhope and Sunderland
  • Some Saturday morning buses will no longer operate due to low usage
  • Customers travelling from Wheatley Hill to Hartlepool will need to change buses in Peterlee, or use alternative Scarlet Band service 58

 

Service 23

Hartlepool – Blackhall – Peterlee – Easington Colliery – New Seaham – Ryhope – Sunderland

  • Continues to run up to every 30 minutes on Monday to Saturday daytimes
  • Most journeys retimed so that together, the 22, 23 and 24 continue to offer a bus up to every 15 minutes from Peterlee to Hartlepool and from Peterlee to Sunderland
  • New buses with state-of-the-art environmentally friendly engines, free wifi and more comfortable e-leather seats
  • Some Saturday morning buses will no longer operate due to low usage

 

Service 24, 24X

Durham – Sherburn – Haswell – Shotton – Peterlee – Horden – Blackhall – Hartlepool

  • Revised route from Durham to Hartlepool via Sherburn, Haswell, Shotton, Peterlee, Horden and Blackhall. Buses will run up to every 30 minutes on Monday to Saturday daytimes, up to hourly in the evening and on Sundays
  • Works with the 23 to offer up to a 15-minute service from Peterlee to Hartlepool, and with the 24 to offer up to a 15-minute service from Peterlee to Durham
  • Later Monday to Saturday evening journey from Hartlepool to Peterlee and Durham, following customers’ requests
  • The 24X will run to slightly revised times to improve punctuality
  • Some Saturday morning buses will no longer operate due to low usage
  • Customers travelling from Ludworth, Shadforth and Haswell to Sunderland will need to change buses in Peterlee

 

Service 61

Durham – North End – Whitesmocks – Crossgate Moor – Neville’s Cross – Durham

  • New service replacing the Scarlet Band 252 between Durham, North End, Whitesmocks, Crossgate Moor and Neville’s Cross
  • Runs hourly on Monday to Saturday daytimes

 

Service 62

Durham – Framwellgate Moor – Arnison Centre – Brasside

  • New service replacing the 42 between Durham, Framwellgate Moor, Arnison Centre and Brasside
  • Buses will run hourly on Monday to Saturday daytimes
  • Operates via Pit Lane and Finchale Road instead of Pity Me, providing new links to the Arnison Centre. Alternative buses from Pity Me to Durham are available on the X2, and from Pity Me to the Arnison Centre on the Go North East 14

 

Service 64

Arnison Centre – Newton Hall – Durham – Gilesgate – Sherburn Village

  • Buses continue to run up to every 10 minutes on Monday to Saturday daytimes, up to every 30 minutes in the evening and on Sundays
  • Minor timetable changes to improve punctuality
  • Ten-minute service from the Arnison Centre and Newton Hall to Durham will start earlier on Monday to Friday mornings
  • Some early evening journeys will no longer operate due to low usage

 

Service 87 (Withdrawn)

Bishop Auckland – Toronto – Hunwick – Willington – Wear Valley View

  • This service will no longer operate due to low usage. Alternative buses are available on SB Travel services 108 and 109
  • New Monday to Friday service 807 maintains link to St Johns School in Bishop Auckland for students who live at Wear Valley View, Willington, Sunnybrow, Hunwick and Toronto

 

Service 8/8a

Darlington – Newton Aycliffe – Chiltern – Ferryhill – Spennymoor

The following journeys are no longer operating due to low usage:

  • Monday to Friday, service 8 at 05.51hrs from Newton Aycliffe to Spennymoor
  • Monday to Friday, service 8a at 06.40hrs from Spennymoor to Ferryhill
  • Saturday service, 8a at 07.50hrs from Spennymoor to Ferryhill

 

Service 14/14a/14b (no changes to services 14a/14b)

Skerne Park – Darlington – Harrowgate Hill/Whinbush

The following journeys are no longer operating due to low usage:

  • Monday to Friday, service 14 at 05.22hrs and 05.52hrs from Darlington to Skerne Park
  • Daily, service 14 at 23.12hrs from Darlington to Skerne Park

 

Service 19

Darlington – Hollyhurst Road – Willow Road – West Auckland Road – Faverdale – West Park

The following journeys are no longer operating due to low usage:

  • Monday to Saturday 07.00hrs Faverdale to Darlington
  • Monday to Saturday 17.51hrs West Park to Darlington
  • Saturday 07.16hrs, 08.06hrs and 08.26hrs from Darlington to West Park
  • Sunday (and public holiday) 09.18hrs Darlington to West Park
