ARRIVA - Bus investment hits the streets

Bus investment hits the streets

Arriva Yorkshire has invested some £8m in 43 new buses for the people of Yorkshire.  They were launched at Temple Newsam House on Wednesday with the help of 60 excited school children who had applied to be a part of the great celebration.

We are Yorkshire

Pupils from St Josephs Catholic Primary School, Dewsbury and Sherburn Hungate Community Primary School, Sherburn, helped by lifting 8ft letters that spelt the words ‘We are Yorkshire’.

This investment will have a huge impact on the bus service across the county.  The state-of-the-art vehicles, many with leather seats, offer greater comfort, a smoother journey and an all round improved passenger experience.  The buses also benefit from having the latest “ultra-clean” low emission engines, brand new ticket machines and onboard CCTV for safety.

Investment demonstrates commitment

Nigel Featham, managing director for Arriva Yorkshire, said: “The scale of this investment demonstrates our commitment to providing the best possible; bus services for Yorkshire.  We’re really proud to be able to offer our customers a newer, improved level of service through our investment in the fleet.  The new vehicles can accommodate buggies, helping busy families get around easier and we are putting a lot of effort into ensuring everyone’s journey experience is enhanced.”

Immediately after the launch, the buses were then driven straight into services across Wakefield, Dewsbury and Leeds.  Passengers were surprised as they found themselves being transferred from their current bus and invited to be very first riders on to the new fleet.  And customers who had made their way to work on an older bus found themselves going home on the very best vehicles the industry has to offer.

Some of the routes that will see new vehicles include the 229 Huddersfield – Heckmondwike – Leeds, 126 127 Dewsbury – Wakefield and the 110 Wakefield – Leeds. Passengers on other routes across the region will also benefit, as newer vehicles are cascaded throughout the fleet.
