Arriva UK Bus is celebrating success after winning a top industry award for its revolutionary mobile phone ticketing system.

Victory
The cutting edge technology, which allows customers to buy, receive and use bus tickets on mobile phones, came out on top at the prestigious 2011 UK Bus Awards on Tuesday 29th November, claiming victory in the ‘Innovation’ category.

Major success
The Innovation category recognises and rewards new thinking in the industry – amongst operators, authorities and suppliers. It focuses on products which can improve efficiency and encourage people to use the bus.
Arriva became the first bus company in the world to launch a national mobile ticketing system back in November 2009, and since then it has proved to be a major success helping deliver more than one million bus journeys.

Huge honour
Mike Woodhouse from Arriva UK Bus, who led the m-ticketing project and played a major part in developing the technology, said: “It is a huge honour to win this award, especially for our m-ticketing system, which we are particularly proud of.

“We constantly strive to improve the level of service we provide to our customers and it is great to see this has been recognised by industry experts.”

Reward
Now in its 16th year, the UK Bus Awards aim to encourage and reward outstanding standards of customer service, high quality staff and best practice.
