Quorum and Arriva North East officially Put Passengers First

Quorum Business Park and Arriva North East have beaten off stiff competition to be the only entry from the region shortlisted for a national award highlighting their dedication to investing in bus infrastructure.

The business park and transport body are celebrating the success of their Partnership for Growth campaign which gained national recognition in the UK Bus Awards, and is now down to the final six in the Putting Passengers First Award.

The UK Bus Awards have acknowledged the high quality of collaboration between the two organisations, seeing the significant transport improvements made at the business park directly benefitting all bus passengers in the area.
Both partners have worked extremely hard to increase bus use at the Business Park with 35% of people working at Quorum now travelling by bus. This compares to a regional average of 21%. This has been achieved despite the Park having very good access to the road network and good parking provision.

There are now up to 29 buses each hour operating to the park, including a branded Quorum Shuttle Bus to/from Four Lane Ends, and the double-decker Quorum Express services that operates to/from Blyth and the Haymarket in Newcastle.

Quorum Business Park commuter centre manager Laura Kerry said, “It’s a great honour to be shortlisted for the National Bus Awards and it’s an exciting opportunity to celebrate the hard work that both Quorum and Arriva have put in over a number of years.

“We look forward to attending the ceremony and hope to be successful in winning this important accolade for north east travel.”

Arriva commercial manager Mark Ellis said, “We are delighted that the strong partnership between Arriva North East and Quorum Business Park has been shortlisted for the award.

“The substantial increases in new services at Quorum are valued not only by employees at the business park, but also by the wider community as well.”
In addition, the Partnership for Growth campaign has seen other initiatives put in place including discounted fares and exclusive Arriva Season ticket deals when workers at Quorum use their free Quorum loyalty card – the Q Card, to get preferential rates not available elsewhere in the North East.

Buses are also fitted with environmentally friendly Euro 5 engines reducing emissions in and around the Park.
Now in its 15th year, the UK Bus Awards aim to encourage and reward outstanding standards of customer service, high quality staff and best practice. The Putting Passengers First Award is assessed in nine key areas from passenger service, innovation and research to star quality. The winners of the awards will be announced in November.
