Service changes in the County Durham area - 17th April 2011

From Sunday 17th April, we will be making a number of changes to our services in County Durham. A lot of the changes are as a result of Durham County Council either reducing or withdrawing their funding for some supported bus services in County Durham. Some of the other services are being changed due to falling customer numbers on services that are provided without funding. The details are as follows :-

Service 1/1b Darlington – Bishop Auckland – Crook – Tow Law
Evening journeys will be revised on Mondays to Saturdays and withdrawn from 6pm onwards on Sundays on the section between Darlington and Crook. We will also be running some journeys to Tow Law in the early evening. The last journeys on Mondays to Saturdays will be as follows :- 19.10 from Darlington to Crook & Tow Law, 22.10 from Darlington to Bishop Auckland, 19.40 from Tow Law to Darlington, 20.40 from Tow Law to Bishop Auckland & 22.57 from Bishop Auckland to Darlington. On Sundays the last buses will be at 18.10 from Darlington to Bishop Auckland and Crook with the last bus from Crook being at 19.10 to Bishop Auckland and Darlington. There will be no service between Crook and Tow Law on Sundays.

Service 2/2a Bishop Auckland – Spennymoor
All Sunday journeys will be withdrawn.

Services 3/3a/3b Bishop Auckland – Ferryhill/Chilton
These services are replaced by three new routes which are Service 35 which will run from Bishop Auckland via Coundon, Chilton, Ferryhill Station, Wood Lane, Ferryhill, Kirk Merrington and Coundon to Bishop Auckland with this service running hourly. Service 36 will run in the opposite direction and will also run hourly. New Service 36a will run every 30 minutes between Bishop Auckland and Coundon, Victoria Lane, Tottenham Estate and Coundon to Bishop Auckland.

Services 4a/b Bishop Auckland – Shildon
These services will remain unchanged

Service 5 Durham – Bishop Auckland – Darlington
The daytime service will now split at Bishop Auckland with buses running between Durham and Bishop Auckland being re-numbered to Service 6 and buses running between Bishop Auckland and Darlington as Service 5/5a. Through fares will be available for customers travelling across Bishop Auckland but customers will have to change buses in Bishop Auckland Bus Station. The evening service on Mondays to Saturdays will be retimed and some journeys extended to Crook Low Mown Meadows (from Bishop Auckland) to replace withdrawn Service 1b journeys. The Sunday daytime service between Darlington and Bishop Auckland will no longer be supported by Durham County Council and will now be operated without support by Arriva. The evening journeys between Durham and Bishop Auckland will be withdrawn due to low passenger numbers. The last buses on Mondays to Saturdays will be at 22.00 from Darlington to Bishop Auckland and Crook, 23.15 from Darlington to Shildon and Cabin Gate & 22.30 from Crook to Bishop Auckland and Darlington.

Service 6 Durham – Bishop Auckland
This new service replaces Service 5/5a on the section between Durham and Bishop Auckland and buses will continue to run in a similar pattern, but evening journeys have been reduced due to low passenger numbers. The last journey on Mondays to Saturdays will be at 18.55 from Durham to Bishop Auckland and at 19.40 from Bishop Auckland to Durham.

Service 7/7a Arnison Centre - Durham – Ferryhill – Newton Aycliffe – Darlington
These services will remain unchanged.

Service 8 Darlington – Spennymoor
This service will still run half-hourly from Darlington to Chilton but will then run hourly to Spennymoor and hourly to Ferryhill with journeys to Ferryhill being renumbered as Service 8a.

Service 8 Bishop Auckland – Barnard Castle
This service will be renumbered as Service 85. Evening journeys on Mondays to Saturdays will also serve Woodhouse Close giving links to the new Tesco/Sainsburys Superstores. The last buses on Monday to Saturdays will be at 22.40 from Bishop Auckland to Hollymoor and at 23.08 from Hollymoor to Bishop Auckland.
The Sunday daytime service will no longer be supported by Durham County Council and will now be operated without support by Arriva on the section between Bishop Auckland and Cockfield. Sunday buses will also serve Woodhouse Close. The Sunday evening journeys will be withdrawn on the Bishop Auckland to Cockfield section of the route and all Sunday buses will be withdrawn between Barnard Castle and Cockfield.

Service 8a Bishop Auckland – Ramshaw
This service will be replaced by New Services 86 & 87. Service 86 will run from Bishop Auckland to Escomb, Toft Hill, Ramshaw, Evenwood and West Auckland to Bishop Auckland. Service 87 will run in the opposite direction to Service 86. The evening & Sunday journeys on this service will be withdrawn on the route between Bishop Auckland and Ramshaw due to low passenger numbers. The last buses on Service 86 between Bishop Auckland and Toft Hill on Mondays to Saturdays will be at 20.35 from Bishop Auckland and 21.05 from Toft Hill.

Service 8b Bishop Auckland – Darlington
This service will be renumbered as Service 84.

Service 18 Bishop Auckland – Willington – Spennymoor/Tudhoe
This service will only run between Bishop Auckland and Willington Wear Valley View with the section between Spennymoor and Tudhoe replaced by Service 69 & the route between Spennymoor and Willington replaced by Service 107 (which is funded by Durham County Council). The evening service will be revised with the last buses being at 19.30 from Bishop Auckland to Willington and at 19.30 from Tudhoe to Bishop Auckland. This route will no longer serve Oakenshaw on evenings. All Sunday buses will be withdrawn.

Service 19 Bishop Auckland – Woodhouse Estate
There will be minor timetable changes to this service.

Service 21 Darlington – Peterlee
All Sunday evening journeys (supported by Durham County Council) will be withdrawn. The evening service on Mondays to Saturdays will be altered to run between Thornley and Peterlee only and will run as service 57a to provide journeys to/from Durham. The last buses on Mondays to Saturdays will be at 22.15 from Durham to Peterlee, 23.15 from durham to Cassop, 22.15 from Peterlee to Durham & 23.15 from Peterlee to Thornley.

Service 21a Middlesbrough – Peterlee
The daytime service will remain unchanged, but we will be adding a limited hourly Sunday service between Peterlee and Deaf Hill to replace journeys on Service 239 which are being withdrawn as part of Durham County Council’s review of supported services..

Service 22 Durham – Hartlepool
All Sunday journeys will be withdrawn and the last bus on Monday to Saturday evenings will be the 19.20 from Durham to Hartlepool and the 20.20 from Hartlepool to Durham.

Service 23/23a Sunderland – Peterlee – Hartlepool
This service will remain largely unchanged, but Arriva will run some extra evening journeys between Peterlee and Hartlepool to replace Service 24.

Service 24/24a Durham – Peterlee – Hartlepool/Sunderland
All Sunday evening journeys (supported by Durham County Council) will be withdrawn. The evening service on Monday to Saturdays will be altered to run between Durham to Sunderland via Peterlee (customers for Hartlepool will need to change at Peterlee onto Service 23).

Service 31/31a Peterlee – Sunderland
Monday to Saturday evening journeys will be withdrawn and replaced by Service 24 (as outlined above)

Service 33 Chilton – Hartlepool
The daytime service will now start at Ferryhill and run to Chilton via the A167. Evening journeys on Monday to Saturdays will be reduced with the last buses being at 19.27 from Trimdon to Hartlepool and at 19.57 from Hartlepool to Trimdon. All Sunday journeys will be withdrawn (this service is supported by Durham County Council).

Service 43 Durham – Esh Winning
The Sunday frequency during the day will be reduced from half-hourly to hourly due to low passenger numbers.

Service 46 Durham – Crook
This service will remain unchanged.

Service 48 Durham – New Brancepeth
The Sunday daytime service will no longer be supported by Durham County Council and will now be operated without support by Arriva. These journeys will now run on the usual daytime route and will no longer continue to run to Brandon. The Sunday evening journeys will be withdrawn

Service 49 Durham – Brandon
The Sunday daytime service will no longer be supported by Durham County Council and will now be operated without support by Arriva. These journeys will now run on the usual daytime route and will no longer continue to run to New Brancepeth. The Sunday evening journeys will be withdrawn.

Service 50 Durham – Brandon
The evening service on Mondays to Saturdays will be withdrawn from 8pm, but the last journey on Service 49 (leaving Durham at 23.10 on weekdays and 23.30 on Saturdays) will return to Durham via Service 50 route. All Sunday journeys (supported by Durham County Council) will be withdrawn.

Service 55/55a Durham – Sedgefield
The evening journeys on Monday to Saturday will be withdrawn on the Cassop to Sedgefield section from 8pm. The evening buses will now run as service 57a between Durham and Cassop and will then continue to Peterlee via a similar route to the daytime 57 service. The last buses will be at 22.15 from Durham to Peterlee, 23.15 from Durham to Cassop, 22.15 from Peterlee to Durham and 23.15 from Peterlee to Thornley. All Sunday journeys on Service 55a will be withdrawn due to low passenger numbers.

Service 56 Durham – Bishop Auckland
The daytime service on this route will see some minor timetable changes. The evening journeys on Monday to Saturday will be withdrawn early with last buses being at 19.45 from Durham to Duncombe Estate and at 19.43 from Duncombe Estate to Durham. The Sunday daytime service will no longer be supported by Durham County Council and will now operate without support during the day between Durham and Coxhoe only (running in a one way loop via Station Road, A177 & Cornforth Lane in Coxhoe).

Service 57 Durham – Kelloe/Peterlee
This service will remain unchanged (but Sunday journeys will no longer be supported by Durham County Council and will be run without support by Arriva). We will also be adding a new Monday to Saturday evening service to replace the 55a and 21 with buses running a similar route to the daytime 57 route. The last buses will be at 22.15 from Durham to Peterlee, 23.15 from Durham to Cassop, 22.15 from Peterlee to Durham and 23.15 from Peterlee to Thornley.

Service 60/60a Durham – Sherburn Village
This service will be withdrawn due to low passenger numbers. Durham County Council will be providing a limited service on a revised Service 59.

Service 61 Durham – South Hetton
This service will be withdrawn due to low passenger numbers. We believe that Go North East will be running part of this route with a new Service 260.

Service 63/64 Brasside – Durham – Musgrave Gardens/Sherburn
These services will remain unchanged.

Service 69 Stockton – Bishop Auckland
This service will now only run between Sedgefield and Spennymoor/Tudhoe (York Hill Estate). The section between Sedgefield and Stockton has the alternative 21a & X1 services with the section between Spennymoor and Bishop Auckland still served via Service 56 and New Service 6.

Service 75/76 Darlington – Barnard Castle
The evening Monday to Saturday services will be withdrawn early with last buses at 19.54 from Darlington to Barnard Castle and at 19.41 from Barnard Castle to Darlington. The Sunday daytime service will no longer be supported by Durham County Council and will be run without support by Arriva.

Service 86 Bishop Auckland – Toft Hill
This service will be replaced by New Services 86 & 87. Service 86 will run from Bishop Auckland to Escomb, Toft Hill, Ramshaw, Evenwood and West Auckland to Bishop Auckland. Service 87 will run in the opposite direction to Service 86.
The Monday to Saturday evening journeys will be withdrawn early with the last buses being at 20.35 from Bishop Auckland and at 21.05 from Toft Hill and all Sunday buses will also be withdrawn.

Service 88 Bishop Auckland – Barnard Castle
This service will be withdrawn as part of Durham County Council’s alterations to supported services. The Link 2 service can be used as an alternative – details from www.durham.gov.uk

Service 90 Bishop Auckland – Woodhouse Estate
This service will be withdrawn. New Service 85 will run via Woodhouse Close on evenings and Sundays to partially replace this service.

Service 95/96 Barnard Castle – Middleton-in-Teesdale
All Sunday buses will be withdrawn.

Service 239 Sedgefield – Easington
The Monday to Saturday evening service will only run until around 8pm between Peterlee and Easington Village, but the service between Peterlee and Sedgefield will run later with the last buses being at 22.30 from Peterlee to Sedgefield and at 23.10 from Sedgefield to Deaf Hill. All Sunday buses will be withdrawn, but we will be running an hourly daytime service on Service 21a between Peterlee and Deaf Hill.

Service X1 Durham – Middlesbrough
This service will remain unchanged (with Sunday journeys supported by Durham County Council to be run by Arriva without support).

Service X2 Durham – Newcastle
We will be adding a new journey from Durham to Newcastle at 17.55 and a return journey at 19.00 from Newcastle to Durham.

Service X24 Bishop Auckland – Durham – Metrocentre
This service remains unchanged.
