Bus service changes in Northumberland and Tyneside areas
There will be changes to bus services from the 16 September 2012 in the Northumberland and Tyneside areas.
These include the following improvements:
- At least a 10 minute frequency for passengers travelling to Newcastle from Cramlington, Blyth, Bedlington and Ashington.
- A simplified Newcastle – Morpeth journey, running every 15 minutes Monday – Saturday and 30-60 minutes evenings and Sundays.
- Newcastle to Quorum Business Park will see an improved 10 minute frequency.
- A fast, direct X20 service from Ashington to Newcastle, which will extend hourly to Amble and provide new links for Ellington and Lynemouth.
- A brand new link from Newcastle to Doxford Park which will half travelling times between the two points
Nick Knox, area managing director for Arriva North East, said: “It is important that we review our networks to ensure that we are consistently serving the majority of the people with the best possible routes and frequencies. These changes will see many improvements to our current service, with more buses per hour and faster journey times on many routes. Unfortunately there will be a few areas that will see a reduced service, however this is due to very few people travelling. We must make sure that the local communities we serve have a strong, sustainable network of bus services and these changes are part of that process.”
